Travel Forums Europe Solo trip VS. Travel Group/Tour

I am planning a trip through central and eastern Europe from Canada. I have previously been through Paris, Switzerland, Italy and Germany a few years back with a tour group. I am trying to decide if traveling with a tour or traveling on my own is the best option for me.

I am in my early twenties and I have experience traveling on my own within North America. I am wanting to go to many places but I have yet to find a tour that includes all of the places I would like to go to or many of them included places that I am not really interested in seeing as I have already been. I am also not really interested in having to follow a guide as I like to wonder off and explore by myself.

Could I get some advice? I would also like some help deciding how to get around once I am in Europe. I have heard of Eurail as a good option for those who live outside of Europe. Do the passes work for all trains or just local trains or what?

Thank you

It doesn't sound you like have any compelling reason to want to be part of a tour and you have plenty of reasons to go alone (freedom to wander off, flexibility of your destinations). I don't think that's a difficult decision - just go solo. Eurail can be a decent option, but do your numbers before hand to make sure it is actually cheaper. Calculate your rough route, work out how much the tickets cost if you buy them normally, then tally up and see if Eurail actually helps or not. And check which routes are included with Eurail - last time I looked there was various options available for different parts of Europe, etc.
