Have a great time. My travel plans have been delayed a month so i won't be able to meet up for a beer in Thailand.

I was just about to PM you to ask you about that. Thats too bad! Then you will just have to meet us in Montreal in September .

Don't count me in, but don't count me out.

How long are you away for this time? I get to Saigon on 30 May. I assume you'll be well home by then.

Hey anne

Good luck on your trip. I'm excited for you!

Your list is fantastic... It's made me realise that I have a few things to add to mine - saftey pins and long-sleeved shirts for the hill tribe treks.

Have a great time! I'll be looking forward to reading about your travels.

I am leaving today at 4 pm and I will be back home by May 16th. Yes, I will be back on my desk by May 30th. Actually, it is a holiday here on May 30th (Memorial Day) so I will be in New York with the hubby for a long weekend .

Thanks Sof...yes, thats why I wanted to post a list. It gives people a chance to think about the little things we seem to forget. What I did was print the packing list from TP and all the threads related to packing (from the general forum). That helped out a lot so I did my own list off of that. There were a couple of things that I would have never thought of bringing if I hadnt seen them on the threads. Good luck with your trip too! I love your website by the way ;) .

Nice trip, Anne!

Airasia airlines is offering 300,000 cheap seats recently! Only MYR79.99 from KL to Borneo...great! Many people are rushing for those tickets! Good luck!

FYI, 1st May is our National Labour Day where the government will switch it to 2nd May - Monday (public holiday, yeah!) in Malaysia. Carnivor sales will soon coming! So, grab fro cheap things while you can!

Bon Voyage.:)

Best regards,
Lee

Thanks for the tip cikusang. It looks right now like I will have enough time to visit Malasya at the tail end. I am very excited! I will look into those tickets as well. :)

Hi everyone! I tried to log on last night and the system was down. .

Anyway, the trip went well. Long flight but not bad at all. We arrived around 2 pm and went outside the airport to catch the local bus. Since we are staying in Khao San Road, we took the A2 to the last stop (100 BT=$2.50). The airport is about 20 minutes away from KSR so it can get expensive if you take a taxi from there, especially if you hit traffic.

The hotel we are staying at is called Nana Plaza Inn, 600BT for a very clean, nice room, two bed, A/C, hot water. The food is cheap, 120BT for a very nice decent meal in KSR.

We also booked the trip to Chiang Mai. It was suggested by a local to go to the TAT (Government tourist office) so we wont get stiffed by a local travel agency. I still think we could have found a cheaper "package" but we are time pressed. Since this is a holiday weekend due to the death of the King's grandson, everything is kind of expensive as far as transportation.

We took a 3 day, 2 night trek package with everything included for about $100 dollars but that also includes an entrance to the National Park. Most agencies in CM take you to non-authentic tribes so I wanted to pay a little more to see the real thing. They will also pick us up to the airport and one night accomodation in a somewhat fancy hotel in CM (if we would have gone on our own to CM and done everything there, it would have been cheaper by the way). Guesthouses are cheap and I was recommended to go to Libra Guesthouse and also take their trek package.

Our ticket from CM to Siem Reap (via Bangkok, no direct flight to SR) was about $150. Also more than I thought but what can you do...if we have been more flexible with the dates, it may have been as cheap as $80. We wanted to take the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai but there was no 1st class sleepers left for this weekend so we opted for the flight, which isnt much more than the train ride.

The train ride from BKK to CM, 1st class sleeper is about 1300BT one way. The airline ticket I think ended up around 1500BT. We booked with Thai Airlines, they had 10 daily flights. Air Asia is cheaper but sometimes the flights are delayed or cancelled at the last minute if there are not enough passengers, we couldnt take our chances. If you have time to spare and dont mind losing a day here and there, then use Air Asia, if not stick with a more reliable airline like Thai Air.

I have more details but it is only our second day here. I could type forever. We have seen a lot of the city already and luckily got to see the Royals praying temple which is only open one day a year and it happened to be yesterday! How lucky are we!!

I will be posting more when I get back from the trek in CM. ;)

Hello again, it is Sunday 5:50 am, local Bangkok time standing at the free internet Bangkok Airways gates, killing some time, checking my emails...I am sleepy.

Heading to Chiang Mai and starting the trek as soon as we arrive. We saw almost all there is to see in Bangkok in a couple of days. I want to go to the National Museum though when we come back. It is the largest museum in SE Asia.

Did I mention is extremely hot here? You dont sweat, you get drenched, you are never dry when you are going around the city. I love it still.

Ok, I will ck back in a few days. Loving it here!
