Doing a two week Alaskan road trip this September and we're looking to rent a camper van for two! Ideally we'd like to rent private and local and avoid the big chains. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something to get us around to our campsites and sleep in from time to time.
Can pick up and return from either Anchorage or SE Alaska. Anyone have any tips??
If you pick up in SE Alaska (Juneau), you 'll see some beautiful spots, but all the roads just connect into Canada, unless you can pay for a ferry to Skagway, and then that road connects into Canada.
If you really want to see most of Alaska, get your RV in Anchorage, and then go either north to Denali National Park and Fairbanks, or south to Homer (Kodiak Island) and Seward (or both since you will have the RV for two weeks). You'll be able to see much more of Alaska this way, including the largest mountain in North America (Denali, formerly Mt. McKinley).

there is no mainland road connection from Juneau if memory serves.
