So ive got a broad outline for a trip im taking next january - and im just looking for any advice or feedback? are there any stops you'd avoid missing out, or any thing that you would change??
Any advice or help is greatly apprieciated!!
I definitely want to do HK, guilin, Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou (Im doing suzhou as a day trip from shanghai) - its just kunming, lijiang and chongqing part im really stuck with ! Are these places definitely worth a visit ( considering im flying out to tokyo to travel around japan after I get back to shanghai from hangzhou?)

Xi'an is worth a stop for the Terracota Army and the plank walk at Hua Shan.
Ahhh sorry I forgot to include Xian there - Im 100% going to Xian to see the terracotta warriors and the Big/small wild goose pagodas!
Does this seem like a good way of going around china though? It seems like the most logical way to me, but I dont want to cut my nose of to spite my face if theres a much simpler way of doing it! The main places I want to go are;
Shanghai, (hangzhou and suzhou too)
The other places are more stop offs en route, (Lijiang, Kunming, Chongqing)
Is this the best route? Or is this more awkward to go the way ive planned it?
Also - Im looking to go from HK to mainland China - to then go onto Guilin. Is Guangzhou or Shenzhen a better place to catch a train from??
You mentioned earlier on another Forum thread that you have five to six weeks for travel to China and Japan. Better stick to your current itinerary instead of adding Yunnan to the mix. I suspect you won't have enough time.
In Xian, don't miss the Shaanxi History Museum.
It might be better to stay in Yangshuo instead of Guilin. Try trips on both the Li and Yulong rivers. It's a different experience. I flew from Hong Kong to Guilin to get to Yangshuo. These Web links have the information you want on getting from HK, Shenzhen or Guangzhou to Guilin by rail: http://www.seat61.com/China.htm

I'm currently in Beijing and I have a few suggestions! I've been researching a lot about going to Great Wall before my visit and I can suggest you to go there by renting a private driver (you can find drivers here: http://www.thebeijinger.com/classifieds) and the best spots at Great Wall are Mutianyu and Huanghuacheng.
Mutianyu is the most popular among foreigners, Huanghuacheng is the only spot of the wall with lake scenery. I went to Huanghuacheng only for a day from downtown Beijing it took 2 hours to get there and a little bit less to come back. I paid 600 yuan's to a driver (300 on the way there and 300 on the way back).
Thanks for the advice!
