Hey everyone!

I'm on my way to Thailand in November and wondered if I could use USD for daily perchases?

I was in Thailand for a week about 5 years ago and can't seem to remember ever using USD 😕

Any help would be great

The currency in Thailand is the baht. You can exchange either U.S. dollars or British pounds for baht.

For the current exchange rates, see this link:

Since you live in the U.K., it would make more sense to convert pounds into baht once you arrive in Thailand, instead of converting pounds into U.S. dollars and then into baht. You'd lose some value by doing that.

Ditto Berner. Use the accepted local currency.

Yeah, change your money for Thai baht in Thailand and use Thai baht for day to day purchases. No problem finding a money changer that takes US dollars or UK pounds. You can even change a little money at the airport when you arrive. Just enough for first day spending requirements.

If UK pounds stick with the 50 pound notes. No dirty money, not old, not torn or with writing on them. Rates are better in Thailand. (Rates are not fixed and may change a little bit every now and then.)

If you still have some USD at home you can bring that too but usually no problem with UK money.

* I have used US dollars in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Good luck.

Cheers guys! I remember using USD in Vietnam and Cambodia but I don't remember much of the Thailand trip 😂

If you're going to Cambodia, the ATMs there dispense U.S. dollars as well as the riel.

"Please let me know if there are any cool tourists spot!!"

Easiest thing to do is buy a printed travel guide! Maybe even easier to do a Google search with a computer. Even this forum has a section for travel guides.

There must be some reason you decided to visit Thailand since you already booked the flights. Only you know what "cool" means to you! Maybe you are interested in nightlife and drinking alcohol, perhaps swimming and diving, maybe eating and shopping.

You will need a hotel room. Most tourists start with Bangkok and venture out from there. Chiang Mai is popular. So is Phuket and other beach areas further south. If mostly nightlife, drinking and carousing research Bangkok and Pattaya. Phuket has nightlife and beach activities.

Look at a map of Thailand. Only you know how much time you have. Bangkok to Phuket is a long haul on a bus if your time is short.

(January is still high season by the way.)

Up to you to do some research.
