Africa's a big continent!

Where to and where from? What transport? Via which countries?

To Somalia? Nah!

To Tanzania? Yeah!

Via Syria? Nah!

You probably need to be a little more specific with your question.

I quite agree with Steve, you need to be more specific, East, West etc etc. Some countries have no problem with djihadists, others lots. Even former very safe places like Mali, Niger or Mauritania are no longer really viable although not entirely dangerous in all regions. Burkina Faso is OK as is Benin, Ghana and Togo. Namibia and Botswana I would place in the very OK category. All depends what you want to do....

Your question is meaningless and impossible to answer when you give zero information regarding which of Africa's 50+ countries you're travelling to.

Cheers,
Terry

Travelling 'to' Africa is generally safe with only the usual chances of something going wrong.

Such an easy question to answer.

Next time though you might want to consider asking the question you actually want an answer to.

We are all on this planet at our own risk, be it in Europe or USA or Africa or wherever. As far as Africa is concerned, there are lots of places that are even safer than some parts of Europe or USA. We see shootings in some States in the US and there are no such things happening in Africa. I understand that there is alot of misconception about Africa when it comes to safety. Yes there are some few places that are not recommended to tourists/travelers and this can easily be found online. Where do you want to go Alex? Statistics show that Africa is one of the major tourist destinations in the world - many people from outside Africa come to Africa every year to experience the people of Africa, her wildlife, beaches,et cetera. They come to Africa because Africa is also a safe continent to be - except the few pockets like Congo, Somalia and so forth.

I travelled through Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe last year and it was perfectly safe. However, I was with a group it may be completely different if you are flying solo.

Thank you Amanda for coming out of the shell and witness that Africa is a safe place to be -esp in the places you have been in particular. This is such an excellent example among so many around. It is a common feeling that when one goes to a new land, s/he should take all the necessary precautions in advance, I say it again, this is a very normal thing. When you are in a group it makes you feel better - solo travelers are worried more BUT again, we have lots of solo travelers in Africa. One thing you should ensure is that you should travel with registered travel companies in those respective countries. Legal companies is one assurance of your safety and they will not let themselves spoil their business by not taking good care of you. Your safety is their backbone. So "Hakuna Matata" in Swahili or Disney Language meaning that 'No Worry" in Africa. Get a ground-handler whose company is recognized by the respective government and this will definitely enhance your experience Africa.
