For fun competitions, I always think the theme is more important than the technical quality, so I have voted primarily on the basis of the photos that I think best express the idea of community.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider voting for my own photo, neither would I vote for a photo simply because I knew the photographer, because that just makes it a popularity contest.

I'm a watercolorist so enter shows and have long since discovered that each judge brings part of their own knowledge, experience, likes and dislikes to their judging. Many more differences with many more judges in a contest like this. Unless we are given a strict judging criteria, it's probably best that we each do what is meaningful and comfortable for each of us. I certainly don't want to pressure anyone else into accepting my standards and would prefer not to feel guilty if I didn't meet someone else's criteria.

We have photos, a theme and a place to vote. Let's just have fun doing that.

Wow, that's been a bad link for a while now! Just fixed that up and not hardcoded any more, so shouldn't be a problem again.

Created a new thread to give the voting process better visibility.

These competitions are always tough from a fairness point of view. Online public voting is just very hard to do in a fair way. It's really impossible to exclude the possibility of people voting for their friends, etc. We do however do a check at the end to ensure the same person hasn't created multiple accounts (don't go getting ideas ) . Usually there are enough votes in these things that voting for yourself becomes negligible. We've also in the past had two winners - one from the public vote and one from an independent judging panel. That allows the fun public vote as well as the more prestigious critical vote. A lot more work to organise though.

Yes, a worthy winner I think. I don't like giving away actual voting numbers, but it did win by a fair margin. :)
