Has anyone booked hostel accomodation through the STAtravel website?
If so, can you please let me know your experience of it and the hostels themselves. Thanks for your help.

Can you not reserve rooms directly through the hostel's website?

I havn't used STA personally for accomodation, but a few of my friends have and they have all given good reports.

I have used them for flights quite alot and find they are really good for flights, but I will never use them for insurance again. I used them once and had my bag stolen and it was the biggest hasstle to sort out. First they said they ahdn't gotten any of my paperwork, then I sent it agian and they said I hadn't included my police report, which I had, and so on and so on. All in all a complete disaster and giant headache.

I use the STA website to find a hostel and then search for the hostel website. STA charge more than booking it directly although it is not much if you want piece of mind.

I always contact the hostels directly. It's just easier that way.
