I went five years ago. We applied through the Myanmar Embassy in Auckland, downloading the forms on-line and then sending the completed forms with our passports to the embassy. They came back within a week by post with a full-page photograph visa stuck in. But Myanese routines change regularly and this website might well be legitimate. Somebody else might have recent experience of the site. Out of curiosity, why did you not contact the Myanmar Embassy in Canberra?

Thank you .
Before applying I had read that if was quite easy to just get a pre approval online and they would email it out a few days later. So I didn't really think too much into it until now that I don't have it ! :( At the time though, I didn't realise there was an actual official government site until now. And now of course, I'm so worried I've gone to one that isn't legitimate . Not sure what to do now but to wait for a reply

Found this thread on Tripadvisor which seems to suggest they did deliver the visa in the end for someone (with enough posts on there to trust it's legitimate). Though if time is tight, you might not want to wait and might just have to count your losses.

According to the U.S. State Department, this is the official e-visa site: https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/

This is from the State Department's Web site:

"The Government of Burma's eVisa program allows tourists and business travelers to apply for a visa online rather than physically applying at an embassy or consulate:

"You are generally notified within a few days whether you have been pre-approved for a visa.
You must present the approval letter at Immigration when you enter Burma.
Once you are approved for the visa, the visa needs to be used within three months.
Apply at: Myanmar eVisa (Official Government Website). Be aware that non-official websites may be scam websites."

Thank you for the feedback - i guess the safest option is to just apply through the official site! at this rate i feel like I'm not going to get the other Visa. They don't seem to reply to anything

thanks again - what a pain !

The site www.visasmyanmar.com has an E mail contact & a chat line .. use that to contact them .. make sure they know it is urgent. If you get no joy from them, I think you should go to the official site https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/noticetotourists.aspx & apply for the E visa from there.

Visas are such a pain in the butt .. make sure you read all the info on the page I gave you .. about nationality & airport of entry etc.

I hope it works out for you.

What are your plans in Myanmar? I have been there a few times & may be able to give advice.

i just hope it comes in time. Don't know what to do if it doesn't.
Im actually not there for a long time at all. only a total of five nights.
I get into Yangon first then I'm thinking of catching a bus that night to get to bagan. Not sure if I should do that or book a flight to leave the next morning. I'll have another full day in Yangon when i leave and go to cambodia.
I found it was easier to just book travel when i get there? is that right? the bus's would probably be booked out I'm assuming though?
