Hey Im out in NY for a month, all throughout July!!!Give me a shout if you fancy meeting up for a coffee or anything!Im going to be out there on my own, interning!!!As for cheap hotels ect, The Gershwin is really nice and not too expensive, its great location too! When i was out there last year a few friends came out to visit me and they all stayed there and loved it!!!If you want something cheaper try the hostels listed in the Lonely Planet guide, theres Jazz on the Park which is quite cool!Give me a message with your plans ans stuff!would be cool to hear from you!

I stayed at the 'East Village Bed and Coffee' and found it quite good value...one of the great things was that they had a list of all the cheap food in the area :)... but I left it with relatives in New York State, now that my mum and brother are going I'm a bit bummed about it

Hi Lis,

I noticed you are from California, I have heard that the best place to look for cheap stays in Vegas are in your local papers as they often post special offers. I was in Vegas about 3 years ago and I stayed in the Imperial Palace which is on the main strip. It was an amazing offer I got as it included return flights from Oklahoma (I was working there at a summer camp), 3 nights accommodation and a $50 food voucher. That is another thing, shop around for hotels that offer free perks and look around for package deals.

It depends what your budget is but there are affordable hotels on the strip eg imperial palace or the stratosphere. Many will say the stratosphere is not a good choice as it is slightly run down, at the end of the strip, but come on you're in Vegas how much time realistically are you going to spend in your room?!

I would serach around the internet and papers for deals eg www.travelocity.com and another hint Vegas is so much cheaper (maybe by as much as 40-50%) if you go Mon to Wed/Thurs.

I was in NYC for a week last month, and stayed in The Gershwin Hotel which twinkle mentions in her post as well. I must say it was a pleasurable experience, since we got treated really well by the hotel staff. We had bad luck with our original "economy" room (it was freezing cold and noisy) and after one night of suffering and not sleeping they gave us a better, larger room for the same low price.

Hi All,

Hotels in NYC seem to be pretty expensive (USD 200 average per night), but someone recommended that I try www.priceline.com to "bid" for hotel accommodation and we managed to get Park Central NY for USD140 per night which is apparently quite good. There's another website affiliated to Priceline from which you can check what the hotels are going at (www.biddingfortravel.com) - I heard of people getting a midtown 4 star for USD110 (one of the Hilton's).

Have a fab trip.
