Hi there,

I am going to china for a month in November and have a list of places I want to visit but I'm unsure of the right route to take. Could anyone help me?

I land in Hong Kong and the places I want to visit are Guangzhou, Guilin, chengdu, shanghai, xian and Beijing.

If can recommend me any other places to visit that would be helpful.

Thanks!

Consider a three day cruise down the Yangtze River in the Three Gorges section (Chongqing to Yichang) - very scenic and a good way to spend a couple of nights. The local cruises are less luxurious but a great deal cheaper than those aimed at international travellers, and you get to meet many more Chinese!

While in Xian, visit Hua Shan for the plank walk - one of the 'most dangerous' walks in the world see here.

Absolutely!!

The route i would take assuming you are flying in and out of HK is:

Fly to Shanghai (or 27 hour train journey)
Beijing
Xi'an
Chengdu
Guilin
Guangzhou.

Also go to Yangshuo its right next to Guilin and is a great place to spend 2 or 3 days.

Thanks for the info! We are actually flying into Hong Kong and out of Beijing if that helps?

Would it be possible to do Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Guilin, Chengdu, Shanghai, Xian, and Beijing. Then I can maybe do the river cruise on way to Chengdu?

I certainly think thats possible, its not a great route but probably the best you can expect with your arrival and departure points.
