Hi, my husband and I are looking to stay in Greece for the month of July, with so much choice can anyone recommend and island/area.

We are looking for:
Close to a quiet beach, great for walking, mountain treks etc, a village location with local shop, taverna etc but easy reach to town by car. We live the ourdoors, nature and scenic views, landscape photography, snorkelling and cycling

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Thanks

Hi, perhaps you'll not think about it, but perhaps Crete must be you choice!
Kalivaki can be your place to be.
Kalivaki is a bay just outside the village Georgioupoli which is situated in the prefecture of Chania at the north coast between the cities of Rethymnon and Chania on the island Crete.
The small apartments (basic) of the same name are 50 m from the bay and have a large swimming pool too.
Chania airport is 25 min, Heraklion 1 hr.
If you decide to stay on Crete, don't hesitate to contact me again. I know lot's of wonderful places.
By the way: it's the high season, but we travelled lot's of time in this month without have a place to sleep. Just use trip advisor and you'll find a nice place to stay!

Hi Gurt,

Thank you, we are not limited to Crete, we just fancy living in Greece so thought Crete offered everything we want. Also sorry we are aiming to go June rather than July. Thank you for your help.

Have you considered Cephalonia? It's got a mountain, plenty of beaches, several small towns and villages, it's not large but large enough to have some diversity and it has some history too.

Without asking many more questions (!) Crete is a good suggestion as being the largest Greek island it has almost every topography and type of location - but not so much the typical white Aegean villages of some islands....and then there are many variations.

I'd (biased as I wrote the whole website, created it before selling it many years ago - but it is still Exceptional!) look at -snip-

Happy travels, Roger
