Hey folks,

Anyone had the experience of booking a one-way fare back to United States or Canada? If so I was wondering if you could provide me with the place of departure and rough cost/accessiblity problems.

I'm planning to fly into Quito with a one-way ticket in August. I have yet to decide where I will fly back home to Toronto from. Preferably I would like to fly back from La Paz (will be non-direct, I know). But Lima, BA and Santiago are other options.

Thanks for any help guys!
Pete

Someone, PLEASE, reply to this message. I'm IN South America and need to buy a one-way to the U.S. and wondering what experience you may have.

I did pretty much that same thing--one way into Quito--5 months later ended up in rio. basically, i just walked around Rio until i found the cheapest advertisement in the window of some travel agent (that looked honest). I got a ticket for 550 into NYC on Japan Air of all airlines. Youll find that specials like this only go to major hubs--so hope youre going to NYC, LA, Chicago, etc. The ticket was rountrip but I didnt go back--youll find that one-ways are usually more expensive. I was able to leave 3 days later. The major carrier offices (delta, US air, etc) all wanted around 750. They too have offices in major cities.

The issue for you is reaching a big city that has a connection with america (via tourism). BA, Rio, Santiago are likely your best bets--probably Lima too, but i wouldnt think La Paz would be that helpful--not as big a tourist destination.

Good luck.

I have been living in Cochabamba - Bolivia helping Colonia Ecologica (www.charity-bolivia.org) for the last to years and now it is time to back. Just bought a ticket to fly to Europe from Central America (which was a lot cheaper). Most of the time it is a lot cheaper to buy a return and not use the return trip. La Paz Miami is quit cheap but don't know the exact price. Or if you have time go standby at the airport.
Good Luck.

this is weird. I'm in Cochabamba, I visited the Colonia last week, perhaps you recall Padre Jaime and another gringo? The other was me. Was just there yesterday with the builder too. Anyway, had to acknowledge the coincidence. Thanks for the advice.
