Anyone know a program that will let me resize digital images so that they aren't too "big" (byte-wise) for websites, I have an apple mac btw so I don't have paint!:(

I used Picasa to reduce the size of my photos to post on here. It was really easy to use and free to download.

I tried Picasa, unfortunately I don't think it's compatible with macs...?

I've never used it myself, but I hear very good things about XnView, which is available for pretty much any operating system out there. (Its main feature seems to be that it has very useful batch resizing and converting options.)

Oh, you need the additional 43MB for X11 for the Mac to get it running though - so I don't know if you're willing to go for that.

NConvert however (on the same page) seems to be the little brother of XnView, and still does resizing and converting, so that might be a better option to go for.

I have a Mac G4. I also have Adobe Photoshop. I use either Photoshop or iPhoto for resizing. Though I have never used it personally, I hear Adobe Photoshop Elements works quite well, and amazon.com has it for $87US. I have seen it cheaper recently too - but that was here in the States.

I'm checkin it out now!

Isadora-iphoto doesn't do the resizing I need (byte wise) the version I have anyway and as for Adobe don't get me started on that! :)
I just wanted something free cos I'm a student (when will I stop usin that excuse )

I know what you mean about iPhoto - it can be more work that it's worth to get things sized correctly - both in pixels and bytes.

I understand the free thing!! (Been a student and free was always good!) Sorry I brought up Adobe... I've always been pleased with my Photoshop and Illustrator programs. But, they are't for everyone, nor does everyone who uses them, like them. It will be interesting to see what happens now that Adobe bought Macromedia (I use Flash and Dreamweaver). Again, my apologies!!!

hey don't apologise at all!, I'm pulling my hair out over this now.
The Xl thing will let me resize the image by pixels but not compress the entire image files size arrrghhh
I had a really nice easy demo but It expired and now it wont let me crop anything without putting a big colourful logo print on all my photos bleurgh

I'm gonna try Iphoto again see if it'll let me do anything

thanks

Try IrfanView! Its a very good program for resizing. I use it on a Windows PC though but i think it should be available for a MAC as its a free (Open Source) program. check out the web for a MAC Version of it.
