Well if you are renting a car make sure to check out some of the places that don't get serviced much by buses, like Yamba, Hat Head NP, Seal Rocks, sand dune at Tea Gardens to name a few. Afterall you may as well take advantage of the freedom a car gives you.

I took a screen shot of all your suggestions though so I'll still check them out I can change my hostels easily enough

Note that the post was deleted as Darryl runs a travel agency, so there's a high chance that the places he recommended are places that he works together with a lot; not places which a regular traveller would actually recommend.

Just because he works with them doesn't necessarily mean they are bad places. As long as as there is a disclaimer is his suggestions really that bad

There was no disclaimer; neither on this post, nor on his others (including the one where he promoted his own company's facebook group). That makes all his recommendations highly suspect.

I know the OP has made his mind up, but I really wish when I was in Oz I'd spent less time on the East Coast and more on the West Coast, specifically South of Perth, and also Tasmania.

I was just on another thread saying how great it would be if more people visited Tasmania, that I feel like it is the state that gets skipped. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love the Australian east coast but there are so many wonderful parts of Australia that struggle to get as much publicity. :(
