My girlfriend of 2 years lives in Abu Dhabi, and she wants to come here. She is 20 and lives in a household that gives her no rights whatsoever. Her parents own her until she is forced into marriage, and then she will be owned by her husband. I want to bring her here and marry her. We have the money. Does anyone have any advice or things I should know before we start this?

Terry's link is the right starting point. I think you want to apply for a K1 fiancee visa. When you say "we have the money" I think you're right - they're looking for evidence that this person won't be a burden on the state. That includes checking your salary and convincing themselves that the relationship is real.

I've known someone who went through this process in the UK and it was straightforward - but he had a good salary and they were able to show plenty of evidence of their relationship. The authorities wanted to see photographs of them together on various holidays, and the interview was extensive.

As she's 20, if you're a similar age it seems unlikely you're yet very established in a career. You say "we" have the money so maybe it's family money rather than your salary - I wonder if that counts, or if her sponsor needs to be your parent instead?

Good luck.

I'm betting they've never met in person so it's not a real relationship, thus any Visa application will be dead in the water right from the beginning.

Hope I'm wrong.

You didn't say if your girlfriend is Emiritian. If she is you may have trouble getting her out of the country. From my understanding Emiritian women are not allowed to leave the country without written permission from a male guardian. Is there no way you could reach out to the family and negotiate a marriage arrangement with them?
