Travel Forums System Talk Address book?

Hi all,

I've just migrated across from TravelPod where there was the facility to compile a list of friends' email addresses to notify when a new entry was published.

I've searched hard but can't find anything similar here. I've also searched for myself when logged out but can't find me, so wonder whether I'm missing something. Do friends need to sign up to follow me? (Not all of them have Facebook...)

Cheers,

JB

Friends can subscribe on your blog, and have the option to do so via email or via feed. They don't need to be members of travellerspoint for this. Once they subscribe for notification via email, you have the option for each new blog entry to notify them when publishing (on by default), and you can see their email addresses by clicking on "x subscribers" from your blog management interface.

Do note that Travellerspoint was mostly designed around the concept of a single blog per person, for all their travels - so with your migrated setup of a blog per trip, they'd have to subscribe to each one they're interested in.

(If you know their email address, you could of course do the honors for them to subscribe them yourself when you set up a new blog. Just make very certain they actually appreciate that!)

Friends can also comment on your blog entries without being members of travellerspoint, but for that you need to explicitly enable the option in your blog's settings ("Anyone can comment"), there's a maximum time that blog entries remain open for non-member comments, and the first time each person comments (based on their email address), you need to manually approve it for showing. (All of those limitations are sadly necessary to prevent the blog comments from being overwhelmed by spam.)

Oh, and welcome! :) Things work a bit differently here than they did at travelpod, but I hope you'll find us to be a suitable home all the same. And don't hesitate to let us know if there's functionality you're missing - Peter (the admin) has a long backlog of improvements to make with the recent virtualtourist and travelpod migrations, but he's always willing to consider even more changes, and if he reads about small ways to make things better, he sometimes can get those out very swiftly.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome!

The ability to enter an address book of committed friends and family would be my main request for admin. Happy for newbies and strangers to subscribe along the way.

Cheers,

JB
