I've had to sleep in Stansted twice, once after missing my flight (long story) and another time last summer on the way home from Italy...waiting for a connecting early morning flight. Both times were horrendous.
The first I was "lucky" enough to get a seat which I hung on to for dear life all night...didnt even leave it to go to the bathroom....got no sleep ..the guy beside me kept digging his feet into my side....and when I finally managed some sort of semi-comfortable position and nodded off at some ungodly hour of the morning, the &*^%$£"£ got up and knocked over a large metal cigarette ash 'thingy' which crashed onto the floor and woke everyone up. I was able to laugh hysterically at it a few hours later when I was less grumpy.
The second time was mid-summer and the airport was PACKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was literally no space anywhere! I was sitting on the cold floor, no sleeping bag, right beside the automatic doors - i was miserable and cold...and only for the cute Australian guy that I got chatting to the night would have been pretty unbearable.
Anyone got any similar experiences?
Similar experice of what? Chatting with a cute Australian guy?
Well, if you have something you'd like to get off your chest Hien.....
tut tut samsara im sure you dont really want to know more about the aussie guy haha
Ok, chatted with Australian guys before. Not in the Airport, but here in TP! Cute? Err... I don't know!
Well, I don't travel on air much, and I have not been in any situation that requires me to sleep in the airport yet. The longest I've waited was a 2-hour delay in a domestic flight from Kuching, Sarawak back to Kuala Lumpur, and I didn't sleep at all!
I had a terrible night sleeping at Stanstead also a couple of years back!!!!Me and my mate Dawn were heading over to Spain to work for the season so we got a cheap flight Newcastle-Stanstead then onto Spain, only problem was we had 18 hours in between arriving at stanstead and leaving!!!!we had hardly any money and needed to svae it for when we got there so we decided to skip the hotel and we thought it would be fun to sleep in the airport! We found a free row of seats tucked around a corner so we settled down for the night!we decided to sit in the smoking area which was a bad idea as we ended up smoking about 100 marlboros between us, thus causing sore throats!!!!!Its got to about 12 am and all the lights wentout, everyone else started taking out sleeping bags and blankets, we had nothing on apart from jeans an little t-shirts, we had put our stuff in the overnight lockers so we could sleep so we coulnt get out a jacket or anything! So here we are plunged into darkness then it was suddenly freezing!!!!we were talking to this cleaner guy and he said that on this particular night there were no incoming or outgoing flights between 12-4.30am therefore thats why the heating and lights get turned off!!!!it was the worst nights sleep id ever had and id never been so cold in my life!!!!!To top it all my mate got a bought of diarreah in the night so the whole thing was a distaster!never again!!!!!
Been to Stansted and slept as well!
Arrived in at midnight(thinking itd be quiet) but nah unfortunately i had to sleep on the floor too! along with the rest! wasnt a free seat anywhere!
I didnt have any sleeping bag either but threw my fleece down and lay on it! (wasnt the cleanest) after but i managed to doze for bout an hour or so. Then at 0400 everyone was "up and at it" to get checked in for flights at 0600. That place neva stops!
London airports seem to be a popular place to spend a night. Haven't slept at Stansted yet, but found the seats at Heathrow quite comfortable. Almost too comfy, they had to call out our names early in the morning, because the plane was due to leave.I can assure you it is no fun to run from one side of Heathrow airport to the other...
I spent one hellacious night in LAX (L.A. California) was accosted twice...could NOT make a connecting flight to save my life...horrible. That was at the time, the filthest airport I had ever been in. There was vomit in front of the counter next to the gate I was leaving from...I was there for 14 hours and it was never cleaned up.
I have also spent a few nights at O'Hare in Chicago...the seats there weren't too bad But it is hard to get any good 'shut-eye' when your arms are wrapped around your bag, so no one can make off with it.
