Hi! I'm planning a trip around Southeast Asia this coming October starting in Thailand and then take in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Anyone interested in joining me or meeting up along the way would be great

If you are looking for someone to share expenses you should mention that too. Knowing how long you are in this part of the world might be helpful too.

Anyway, Thailand is easy to do on your own. Many tourists prefer to travel "solo" so they they can do what they want when they want without any compromise. For Bangkok, some younger tourists head for Khao San Road area to be around other younger tourists. Some tourists choose locations where they can use the city rail service and perhaps visit adult nightlife. (Nana-Asoke area for instance.)

In Thailand you might meet other people in your hotel or hostel. You may even meet people on the plane ride over from your country - wherever that is. You can sign up for shared tours through many travel agencies in person. In a van with 6-8 other people you have a forced association. You meet people in pubs and beer bars if you are old enough to be legally served alcohol.

Bangkok is an easy city to do. Besides city rail service (available 6 am to around midnight) meter taxis are not that expensive when you pay the meter fare and not a flat rate!

Four countries means different visa regulations. You need to verify your visa entry requirements for each country on your list. For Thailand, if you intend to arrive with a one way flight and intend to enter with the free Visa Exemption stamp they give you at the airport you should have proof of a flight out of Thailand within 30 days. (Proof of onward travel.) This may or may not be enforced at your first departure airport. Google it up!

Know how to best handle your money during your trip. My advice is to not rely only on a single debit card for your day to day expenses. Lose that card or have it stolen by a guest or companion and you will have a problem getting a timely replacement. Have a couple credit cards for emergencies that might come up. (Fall in a hole, fall off a balcony, wreck a bike, get hit by a taxi, eat some bad food, etc. could require medical care.) Check for insurance to cover hospital - doctor services. There are some indigent foreigners in hospitals asking for donations because of accidents.

For each country you visit Google up scams to be aware of and how best to change your currency.

Good luck,.

It is an understandable mistake (though technically you are meant to have a motorcyle license in Thailand, it's just none of the rental companies ask or care about it) and a good lesson in why you must read the fine print of any travel insurance. You really should go through the list of activities you plan on participating in and check how it corresponds to the terms and conditions of any insurance coverage. It is tedious but can save you a lot of trouble in the long run.
