These "star maps" are usually updated only around every 10-20 years or so--which means that the information is usually all bogus. The reason for this is two-fold--#1 not too many stars really want to be bothered by tourists coming through their front yards, especially if the tourist could be a stalker, and #2 the "star maps" company really has no incentive for keeping these maps up-to-date--after all, you the purchaser really doesn't know if the addresses are accurate or not.
The better way to know where a celebrity lives is to check out the internet and look at real estate purchases for a star you are interested in--these are required to be posted by California law (strange, huh?). Also, hang out either on Rodeo Drive on a weekend morning or go to a trendy restaurant on Monday to Friday at lunchtime. Stars have to eat you know--and they all have their favorite places. (e.g. J Loh likes The Ivy--I've seen her there) Lastly, the other place I've run into lots of stars is at the airport--I've met Brook Shields, Sophia Loren, Robert Vaughn, Grey Davis (former California governor) and Dennis Ross (key middle-east negotiator) on flights or at the airport and had long conversations with all of them but Sophia.
Certain spots are well-known hangouts for certain groups--rock stars all hang out at the Rainbow Room on Sunset Blvd--and well-known comedians like Robin Williams or Jerry Seinfeld will drop by "The Comedy Store" on Sunset to try out their material mid-week.
Also, here's my number 1 secret I used to meet stars when I lived in the Los Angeles area. Go to the Academy Awards show and hang out just outside the theatre right after the show is over (all the tourists hang out before the show then leave to watch the show at home--so it's usually almost deserted when the stars finally leave). The stars have to cross the street to get to their limos--and the ones not heading to parties actually take the time to sign autographs and talk for a couple of minutes to their fans. One year, when "The Color Purple" and "Out of Africa" were movie nominees, I met Jon Voight and Oprah Winfrey this way--and talked to Klaus Maria Brandauer for about 15 minutes after the show.
My last suggestion--buy an expensive ticket to a sporting event or concert the stars like to attend. Everyone knows Jack Nicholson and Dyan Cannon go to all the LA Laker Basketball games. And when Prince did his first concert in LA, Barbara Streisand was there, as was Sean Connery, and Jack Nicholson was there with his date, Anjelika Huston.
