3. The downright rude: In south Africa me and my mum were stalked by a deranged one eyed ostrich (these things are apparently actually pretty lethal!!!) on a walking trek

lolol they scare the hell out of me with their necks! I have actually got a pure fear about them!

I saw a guy throw an egg from a speeding car into the back of an ice cream van. It took the top off two ice creams the man was serving and ended up smashing on the inside of the windscreen.

This one was apparently famous in the park for bein particularly abusive!

The guide we were with told us they can literally mow you down and scratch you to death with their claws

So not such an unfounded fear eh?! although riding tame ones is a bit of an experience ;)

Errr, I don't know who you've been sleeping with, but I don't think they look the same at all.

I suppose it he'd been dragging it behind him on the floor, it may have been more weird than unexpected. But I gotta agree with Cupcake - the basic parts are the basic parts, especially if you're standing some 50 feet away.

The Paris Metro also had some pretty swift rats - tiny ones, almost like brown versions of white mice. Still... We also saw a big, fat, brown rat across from the main bus station in London. The thing wasn't scared in the least - it just looked at us and kept munching on some garbage. I did one of those heebie-jeebie dances - half to chase it out of our way, and half because I was completely heebie-jeebied.

oh dear...

That wasn't my aim at all at all

Anyway I can tell you how to avert danger.

1. hide behind a tall tree.

2. If this fails find a large stick, ostrichs are scared of other ostrichs that are taller than them, so strut about flap your wings/arms and stick the large *erm* stick above your head.
The unsuspecting ostrich will no doubt find this unfathomably terrifying (apparently they have bad eyesight particularly those with only one eye (see above))

hope this helps

a concerned mim;)

I wouldn't necessarily practice that at work, though...;)

I was once stalked for three blocks in San Antonio, Texas by a black bird of some nature.

I was walking along and suddenly felt a rush of air by my head - I looked back to see a bird flying away. I thought it was weird, but didn't think much of it. About 30 seconds later, the same bird again came by and buzzed by my head, hitting me with his talons (though they weren't large or sharp enough to cut me). For the next three blocks, I was ducking as the bird continuously flew from lamppost to lamppost, squaking at me, and dive bombing me.

The weird thing was that there were lots of other people on the street, but the bird was just bothered by me, and only bothered me. I can't think of anything I did to the bird - I had just walked out of my hotel. Maybe my hair gel was a bad smell or something.

It's no one-eyed ostrich, but it freaked me out for the next couple of days. I was constantly looking around and above me to make sure no birds were coming at me. And I've stopped using that hair gel.
