There are certain things I just cannot eat (mushrooms, for one - fungus! Who eats fungs? It grows between your toes!), but I love to try new foods.

The only thing I'd be wary of are new foods from parts of Asia, only because they're so very different in texture and origin. I went to a restaurant in Chinatown here awhile ago, and the waiter couldn't describe the vegetable in the soup because he has no English references to choose from. The vegetable was the texture of turnip, with holes all around the edges. It tasted odd, and my brain kept protesting. I guess I'd need to spend time there to get used to how different people eat.

I'd have to say Durian Fruit, as we discussed in this thread: The Lucky Durian.

Durian Fruit is a very smelly fruit. I tried it during a tour of a spice farm on the Island of Zanzibar. It's white inside and very soft, almost like a soft white cheese. I took a blob and ate it. It actually was relatively tasty. However, it made my pee smell bad for two days!

Deep Fried Chickens feet

Fertilised hens eggs ? look disgusting but actually taste quite nice. A cross between a hard boiled egg and roast chicken.

Fried Grasshoppers

The ultimate would have to be a tasty stew a few friends and I were given at a Laos village festival feast. As we were tucking in we enquired as to what we were eating? Our hosts tried to explain but couldnt quite find the words. We tried to help by doing various animal impressions. Just as one of the locals put his hands to his head miming a pair of small ears whilst at the same time making squeaking noises, one of the girls picked up what was obviously a tiny head. Yes the head of a rodent of some description! My first and I hope last taste of Rat Stew.

I guess those were more weird than worst foods.

I remember a friend who bought a chicken burger from a well known fried chicken chain. He took it back complaining that he had specifically asked for no mayonnaise. The person behind the counter said that there was no mayo on it. It was only when he opened up the burger that it became apparent that he had in fact bitten into and burst a giant cyst that had been growing on the chicken. Now that takes some beating.

The worst for me were raw oysters. I don't like seafood or fish so they were hard to choke down.

Strangest - The Lucky Durian (so far). Though, the poor thing had started to ferment so tasted somewhat like it smelled. We gave it a proper burial.
