If I had 4 days and 3 nights and to choose between Malaysia and Thailand, I would pick Thailand. The day my plane lands in Bangkok I would do my shopping a visit places in the city. The next day I would take tour to floating market, crocodile farm, or elephant riding.... After that I would spend a day at Pataya beach. The last day, I would go back to Bangkok to do more shopping before getting to the airport. Bangkok is famous for souvenir shopping, temples, jewelry (just becareful for the fake stuff) and Thai silk. If you happened to be in Bangkok, don't forget to visit weekend market (hundreds of souvenir shops, to make London flea market looks like a drop in the bucket).

The great Malaysia sale carnival returns in March. If you like shopping, you will want to be in Malaysia - everything will be on sale, up to 70% Thailand is nice but quality shopping is definitely Malaysia...
