Thanks for your welcoming words

I am getting my music ready, I have just bought a 512 meg SD card to go with my 128meg mp3 player. That should keep me sane.

I go absolutely loopy at people who have no concept of personal space. I sat through a 3-hour bus ride (thankfully only 3 hours) next to a guy who read 10 papers stretched out l-i-k-e-t-h-i-s. It drove me crazy! That's my space! MINE! See, where the seats divide: yours ends HERE!

Ditto people who kick the seat, elbow you in the ribs over and over (you get the same space to eat as everyone else on a plane - so why do you cut your chicken with your elbows stretched out like you're about to take flight??), fall asleep on your shoulder, clear their throats over and over, talk to themselves (when it's 4 in the morning and the rest of the plane is trying to sleep), get up to pee every 5 minutes but insist on a window seat, can't control their screaming kids, talk over your head to people they know in the other aisle, etc. etc.

OK, OK, so I have issues.

I saw some shocking behaviour from a fellow traveller recently.

We were on a bus from Phnom Pehn into Saigon adn the bus had to stop and wait for the ferry to carry us across the river. whilst waiting for the ferry there were dozens of people selling food, sunglasses, drinks etc. they were doing the usual and tapping on the windows and asking anyone outside of they wanted anything, adn to be honest they weern't pushy in the slightest, they'd ask once and then move on, probably as they had so many other cars and buses to get round before the ferry came in. Anyway, a german man got off of the bus for a cigarette and stood blocking the path of everyone trying to pass between the vehichles, when a woman asked if he wanted any spring rolls (a polite enough request if you ask me) he went mad and then pushed her (big german man, small Cambodian lady) and then flicked his cigarette ash all over the tray of spring rolls on her head and then stubbed his fag out on the plate of food.

I was livid at his behavious, the woman wasn't hassling him, merely asking him a simple enough question, and he retaliated by ruining the food she was trying to sell. Nice bloke hey?!

No you don't Tway! All of those things would be avoided if EVERYONE practiced some common courtesy! Unfortunatly, some people lack manners.

The worst thing I did (heehee) when I was on a plane was snore so loud.....THE SEATS WERE PROBABLY VIBRATING!! My friend who I was travelling with on a flight to Germany couldn't sleep a wink the entire time! It probably disturbed everyone in the coach class section. But it was only for, like, 3 minutes. I've never slept beside anyone like me hee hee

Peace,

Steph

I can think of a couple of incidents that other passengers make you trips abit uncomfortable. The first is the Laotians not build for long bus journeys (or short ones), from elderly to young ones all have plastic bags hooked around their ears and their faces in the bag being sick, the sound and the smell is enough to make you want to be sick yourself. Second one I can think of is on a sleeper bus in China from Jinghong to Dali. The chinese spitting habit. I was on the bottom bunk and was woken up by the loud sound of KKKKKCCCCaaaaa TO, and the shower of spit in your face:(. I have learned to choose the top bunk since then.

The one thing i really cant stand is people hooking up/having sex in hostels!! so bad - so so bad. the sound of 2 (or more!) drunken poeple bumping uglies in a 16 bedder is enough to make me want to die. I no longer put up with it and usually tell them to piss off!!! I can stand pretty much anything but that!! hahaha!

Oh and advice on flying - i went from NZ to Ireland - dont think theres a much longer flight than that - and you can either dope up or get over it i think - focus on your destination and try to chill! (although admittedly the horrible, paper reading, snoring, farting, fat guy next to you may make that kinda difficult!!!)

I hate flying. Last time I went to Cuba, I tried thinking of the holiday, but it didn't work so well comming home.

I hate the horrible feeling when people have pushed you out at the luggage belt, and you think you can see your case. But can't get to it. Then you don't see it again for ages!

I have never experienced the people having sex in a hotel thing, the worst was when a family next door where arguing in Ibiza and the dad was hitting his children.

i've had a few bad plane experiances;

  • Getting stuck on a flight from Ecuador to Madrid next to a little old lady who prayed out loud for 8 hours. I wanted to ask, "I thought only God had to hear you not the other 300 passengers?"
  • flying back from china, a dark liquid started leaking out of the overhead locker above me, and it smelt REALLY bad. The stewardes opened the locker and a lady had brought 5 carrier bags of cooked food onto the plane with her. One of which contained a pickled cabbage which had started leaking. Being Air china, they didn't throw the bag away, they didn't throw the offending item away, they just put it in another carrier bag and stuck it back in the overhead locker. I thought I was going to be sick from the smell.
  • Getting sat between a Catholic missionary and an Irish Protesant prient on a flight to Ecuador. They spend 8 hours debating religion
