me and boyfriend are going travelling around india from the 1st dec until the end of march next year...

we are flying to chennai, then going across to kerala, up to goa for the xmas/new year period, then not sure where, we want to go to agra and delhi and rajhastan and once we'd done that we wanted to go across to nepal and go trekking but since we have heard about the wars that is now on hold... i really want to do the elephant ride in assam though, after that we plan to go to thailand for a month to three weeks... as you can see what want to do a lot... my main question is how much do you think we would need? we want to live pretty comfortably and plan to travel about by train and bus to keep the cost the down, but im unsure of how much to save..... ive read you can live off about £10 a day, is this true?
id appreciate all feedback

thanx x

You are lucky going to India, you will be addicted to this country very soon (I was there 2 years ago and I am kicking the habit ever since). I spend on my own about 12 euro (8 pounds) a day (including hotel, restaurants, transport and 'tourist' attractions). If you are travelling with a companion you can divide this in half (double rooms in hotels and sharing ricksaws, offcourse except publictransport) = 6 pounds. This is actually in budget hotels. I can tell you that these budget hotels are pretty fine (see lonely planet guidebook of India). For midrange hotels you should pay not more than approx. 10 to 15 pounds per day for double room. With 15 to 20 pounds (all-in) is your India-experience a fact. Have fun and enjoy.....;)

I think that might have been me at least i did write that recently,
I spent at the most £10 a day mostly less, that's a safe figure, but then I've heard Goa and thewest coast is slightly more tourist geared so things may be a little pricier, I didn't go so..?

good luck though, you're going to have an amazing time!

Thanx for you replys!

yeah goa is a little bit dearer, me and my fella went there for two weeks in march, we have already booked our accommodation goa from here though for two weeks, as we wanted the xmas/new year period so was afraid we wud not get in as is very busy... i adored Goa, its beautiful although i have been told kerala is nicer... it was from a friend who has also travelled there many years ago that he sed £10 a day was sufficient....

thank you anyways
