hey guys. i have a 12 month return to thailand and was planning on visiting most of se asia, as well as india, before flying home from bangkok after 12 months. does anyone have any advice about buying a return flight to india from thailand? things i'm wondering about are visas... can i get a visa for india in thailand? also what about when i return from india to thailand? will i get stamped back into thailand for 30 days?

also any general advice/tips/recommendations for 6 months in india would be greatly appreciated! i'm particularly keen on visiting sikkim and himachal pradesh, but will also try to see as much of northern india as possible, including calcutta, varanasi, agra, delhi and mumbai, and anywhere in between.

if anyone could give me any advice on a budget for six months in india that would be cool. i'm thinking £300 per month. is that too little?

cheers, joe

hey joey,
calcutta would be a good point of entry(cheaper from t'land) and a good intro to india!. you will need permits for sikkim(free, for a month) and you can pick in here.
check the trekking season, which i think starts in october. sikkim is a small unspoilt paradise and darjeeling would be a good stop en route.

Calcutta has an extensive railway terminus to almost n e where in the subcontinent.(!)

you can pick up a 6month visa in bankok for about £30, i dont know how long it takes, or you could pick it up from london(takes an hour/2)in advance.

happy travels, GEbz
