going to SA to visit my boyfriend's family who lives in Blomfontain.
We'll arrive in Joburg in the early morning (5.40) and as far as we were able to find out it's chaeper to travel there by bus/train than by plane.
Unfortunately most webpages (translux etc.) weren't working, so we couldn't find out about all the sevices/fares/timetables.
we don't care how we get there, as long as it's cheap and safe and we don't have to spend too much time in Joburg, because my partner doesn't know the city at all and I don't wanna stay there too long, bec of all the stories I've heard...
pls give us as much advice as possible!!!
thanks Kathi and Charles (living in NZ now)
what can you recommend to do there? we have a very tight budget, but we also don't wanna sit at home and drink coffee with his family all the time! any cheap safaris/trips etc. you know of?
I've checked up on buses for you
Fares in the region of R200.00 one way to Bloem
or Intercape if you have no success there.
Bloemfontein is a big city so I am sure there is a lot to do.
here is a link to check out
Hope this helps
PS - don't even think of travelling by train please.
Jo'burg isn't as bad as it's made out to be. I've lived here for 20 years now and wouldn't want to live anywhere else! It's a great, vibey city - just stay away from actual Johannanesburg - you're better off in the Northern Suburbs.
Re. safari's in Bloem, I'm really not sure...there must be something in that area, but Bloem has a reputation for being a bit backwards, sorry!
Have you checked out lonely planet etc? Also, another one is www.southafrica.net
Have a wonderful trip to SA, it really is a beautiful country.
Your trip to Bloem.
Rearrange your trip to arrive in Cape Town instead of Jhb.
Spend a week touring here as CT has plenty to see and do.
Then go to Bloem and take a couple of days rest there with your family before flying out.
Jesus, haven't even realised that I got so many answers by now!
thanks a lot for all your advice!
yeah, I would love to see CT, but it's our finances that wil not let us...
