Hi Guys,

I'm starting to plan a trip to Eastern Europe next year and i had a few questions...sorry if you've answered them a million times already..
first of all this is our iternary(sic) so far, in no part order Moscow>St Petersburg>Poland>Austria>Germany>Croatia>Slovenia(?)...possibly more to add...anyways

Questions:
1) i've heard its pretty cheap but seeing as im taking over the lil New Zealand dollar i'm expecting to have to save quite a bit anyways, can someone give me a ballpark figure for like 6 months of travelling not including flights. Expecting to cook our own and live in hostels etc.

2)My b/f is croatian so we'll be ok there but how about the rest of E Europe, do they speak much english?

3)safety wise? how safe would it be in relation to western europe etc? wire-mesh anyone?

4) im a bit of a history freak, anyone recommend any history tousrs in austria/poland/germany?

thank you in advance for any tidbits of info:)
p.s i think this forum rocks, bless the day i found it!:)
Cheers
Shad

Hi Shad.
Pretty much all younger people speak fluent english in Eastern Europe, so you'll be fine. Safety wise you'll be fine, if you keep your eye on your belongings all the time. And History - you really might want to visit Estonia, we've got quite colorful history, compared to other Baltic countries. You'd get here by ship from St Petersburg. ;)

By the way, Shad, when you're in Poland, you won't want to miss Krakow! It's one of the nicest cities in all of Europe! The entire Old Town area is Fun and Beautiful. Also the nearby Salt Mines are Amazing.

So what are the 20 cities so far? Let's see the List .

Just saw this part. Yes, Eastern Europe is definitely cheaper than Western Europe. In a few years when they adopt the Euro it will probably get more expensive .
