Paris-Freak/Geek here! Yes, I have a bording-on-psychotic obsession about the place, but I'm going to put that aside for the moment and answer the question without any bias.
I really find it hard to pick the "best" place in the world to travel because they all differ so much! That seems like a cop-out, but I really mean it. Paris and France and beautiful, Germany sparked my interest because I'm a WW2 buff, the US just has so many things to do, and I can go on...and on...and on....
It's the journey, not the destination
I totally agree!
Paris is also my #1 choice - mostly because I have the greatest memories of my trip. My favorite destination at any given point is the next one I'm heading to. I love to read about the place and plan how many things I can see. It becomes a mini-obsession...

That's the same with me. I love to plan trips! I just wish I'd taken ALL the trips I've planned. But gathering the Information, reading about the place and looking at pictures deciding where to go is definitely a major part of the experience.
because i've only travelled to europe, im a little bias... but i think if you had to pick a specific country to travel to, it should definately be a country that is big enough to have a diversity in scenery.... like its different from one side of the country to the other...
it also all depends on what country you're from, because i wouldn't necessarily travel to the united states because its so close to canada and there are a lot of similarities between our two countries... so for me, i would probably say india or china because they are so big, and so diverse, and im still getting a taste of a completely different country,... (i've never even been to either country, but im just saying that if i had to choose!!)
... i live for culture shock!!!

Very, very good . That's the spirit...
OK, I'm succumbing to peer pressure and changing mine to INDIA (because it's big, diverse and you could travel just in that 1 country for a year and continue to see new things). Burma is really cool but I guess it's too small .
There're a lot of similarities in culture between US and Canada, but I'd still like to cast my vote for the good-old US of A. It has 2 of my favorite places so far in my travels: Hawaii and Las Vegas, enough said!
oh yah haha thanks...yes i think malaysia is gr8, i love thailand the beaches & nature part but i have the feeling that i'd love new zealand - we'll see about that!
Think if it is a SINGLE country.... it will have to be the USA!!
if it is an AREA... think europe basically beat others by a mile!!!
Single country USA.....really. was way to similar to Australia and the UK...just too developed. I guess I prefer places that actually make you feel like you are in a different country, that have ancient culture and original cuisine...places like cambodia, vietnam, turkey and mexico....now they were different, eye opening, mind blowing, unforgetable experiences.
I think Thailand for me. Before I went I was expecting to be underwhelmed by it given that the world and his wife seems to go there. But they go there 'cos it's lovely! And the food. mmmmmm...
