Ho Chi Minh City:

1/2 day visiting the Cu Chi tunnels. Visit the American War Remnants museum, Reunification Palace. Do a bit of shopping in Ben Thanh market. Most of the sites are within walking distance of each other so you can spend a day or 2 just walking around taking it all in.

A few good bars in Pham Ngo Lao are Sahara (open late) and Allez Boo. Apocalypse Now is a nightclub maybe worth a visit. Kims Cafe in De Tham St. off Pham Ngo Lao is a good place to eat that is fairly cheap. I think it's either the Rex Hotel or Caravelle that has an nice (but expensive) balcony bar, sometimes live music that is also worth a visit.

Not sure about Phan Thiet as i've not been.

there are quite a few shops in and around Ban Thanh market that sell lots of bags/rucksacks. I'm not too sure on the price to be honest, but i know there is a big selection.

Hi all,

I'm a Vietnamese girl. Most things Daveh said about Ho Chi Minh city is true :D . One thing if you are not very very rich :D and if you want to buy thing with a cheap price in Ho Chi Minh is that: you should discount everything you want to buy in the market. All small-sellers (especially in Ben Thanh market)say a high price when you ask them but they can sell you at much lower price. But this is not true if you go shopping at supermaket of plaza :D

What a pity you will not come to Hanoi. I live in Hanoi, so if you go to Hanoi I can provide you more detailed information. Why don't you visit Hanoi and North Vietnam?

Wish you have an interesting trip.

Alice

If you are looking for something todo in North Vietnam, is tour Halong bay by Junk boat (spending a night too). Bad part is most of these junk boats are not the true traditional or authentic ones; I can't find this on the net, if anyone has extra info, please post. Thanks.
