My group are planning a trip to Laos from 20th to 25th July 2005. We will depart from Cau Treo border - Vinh provinces - Vietnam.

Here is the brief schedule I have set up, based on the information I get from Lonely Planet for Laos and Internet :
Day 1 : depart from Vinh -Cau Treo border -Vientaine by bus
Day 2 : leave Vientiane for Luang Prabang which is about 70kms far from the main town of Luang Prabang.
Day 3 : find and visit the confluence 20N102E
Day 4 : explore Luang Prabang
Day 5 : Luang Prabang - Vientiane

Could you guys help me on some issues I am still not clear
1/ Accomodation : may you suggest me a hotel or guest house In Vientiane and Luang Prabang.
In Vientiane : I selected Ministry of Information and Culture Guest house ( from Lonely Planet), with the room of 5 $. Is there anyone having stayed there before ?
2/ Transport : I intend to take the night bus from Vientiane to Luang Prabang. But I am not sure whether the night bus fot that route is available or not. And whether it is safe or not travelling at night.

Many thanks to you guys !

I'm looking into travelling down the Mekong River from Laos to Cambodia. If you haven't included a trip on the Mekong River in your itinerary, you might like to consider it as I've heard it's great.

Have you stumbled across any good websites about travelling in Laos? Ideas for this leg of my journey are very sketchy (although "sketchy" could be fun!).
