I saw this map online - you select the countries you've visited and then it shows you them on a map - and thought it was a good idea. Is there any way to include one in the site with the journal maybe?

One day, yes.. we'll get something like that happening at some point, although it may take a while.

I think it would be better if the map had a way to put pins on major cities or places, etc., or something like that. That way if you went to say (St.Petersburg -Russia for 1 day), all of Russia, through Siberia, etc. wouldn't be red. It gets a little misleading.

Indeed, that is more along the lines of what we were thinking. While we're at it, any other thoughts on the matter?

I suppose our idea was to let users place the pins, dots, tags, whatever on any spot they like and name the place themselves (this saves us storing a database of EVERY placename in the world!). But I'd certainly be curious to know how people would expect something like this to work! It's fairly high on our list of priorities at the moment actually.

Do you mean...we each have our own map on our profile thingy?
Or just one general map where we can tag it (by it isn't attributed to us?

Each their own, although there could be a general map that ties in with it.

I like the idea of pins. An option to put connecting lines between pins would be good, especially between different countries or parts of the world.

Ok, mindless 1 am brainstorming...

- Each pin could be colour coded or have a number on them. That way, each user could enter information about each pin. Example, pin 1 is in Lima, Peru, members could enter the date the went, and a little blurb about it. OR the pin number could be written in the member's travel log in their profile, so when someone sees a member profile, they'll see the log and the number, and find the corresponding pin on the map.

- I don't know how technologically impossible this one may be, but a user can enter all the info for each pin (no numbers this time! :) ), and when someone rolls their mouse over a pin, info about the trip will pop up. Or perhaps a user can click on a pin and a seperate window can pop up.

- Or perhaps you can strike an agreement with a website that already does maps like that and trade advertising. Ask ifyuo can use their service to post on your site in exchange for giving them a free plug underneath the map. Like, "this map brough to you by..." and the link.

K, if I stay up longer due to insomnia, I'l try and think of more ideas!

Cheers,
Katie ;)

I think it would be good to be able to post a little bit of information with the pin, so it showed up when u scrolled over it.

Maybe it would be possible to link it to the relevant section in your travel diary as well so if ppl click on it they can see your travel diary for that place.

Also I think the idea of lines between the pins is a really good one, but would it be possible to have the option of different coloured lines for each different trip you take? I know nothing about the technical part of this so i have no idea whether any of this is even possible, just ideas.
