Yes we took the car to Florida during the first of April. I was surprised how enjoyable it was to take a car ride to Florida from Canada with my family. We had numerous stops, but one long one in Portland, Maine where my daughter got to make a bear from scratch at the Maine Mall. Later we traveled to our first night's rest stop at the Mariott just north of Hartford, Conneticut. If you happen to be taking a vacation to the US in this area I would recommend staying here. It's not your typical Hotel - its located in an Industrial Park and is surrounded by trees - you would think you were still in the country. Also, the beds are the best beds I have ever slept on. I wouldn't have known about this except my Wife stayed at an exact duplicate Hotel in Manchester, New Hampshire. There are only three of these Mariotts in the United States - the other is in Detroit. Anyway the next day we made it to South Caroilina where we stayed at a Hampton Inn located near (Rocky Point - Rocky Ridge?). It was okay (Price Wise) and we had a Continental Breakfast. The next night we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in St Augistine Florida. THe Holiday Inn was okay - it had a pool, but it was not heated - however they did have wireless Internet, and free continental breakfast. Thats all I have to say for now but I will continue when I have more time.

The Hampton Inn where you stayed in the Carolinas was on Winstead Avenue just off Route 64 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Hopefully, you drove across the street to the Outback Steakhouse for dinner. Rocky Mount is a favorite spot for nightly stopping by drivers traveling either North or South on I-95 because it is roughly half-way between New York City and the Northern part of Florida where you spent the next evening. Rocky Mount is a city of about 70,000 in the coastal region of North Carolina. Aside from a number of local amenities such as a University, large cultural center, and varied recreational and historical sites, it has the advantage of being about a half hour drive from the Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Durham section of the state; is only a 2 1/2 hour drive from the Outer Banks, and about a 2 hour drive from the Williamsburg/Virginia Beach region. The climate is mild, and the pace of life agreeable. Stay longer next time.
