It seems this thread is receiving broad acceptance from TP members! Attached hereby is one of my best friend's personal blog
http://mypaper.pchome.com.tw/news/joshua/

- it's written in Chinese and he is currently doing as a film commentator in some of the press, so take a look at this blog and read his comments on film literarcy/arts!

As some of you said why ZhangZiYi would get such a high profile in international stage - she's a brilliant artist and eventhough I AGREE that her acting is not as good as Maggie Cheung and GongLi, ZhangZiyi is the most seek-after actree nowadays! (this is the life!) NOTE: MAGGIE CHEUNG is my dream lover since standard six (12 year-old until now; i am her super fans!) Tony Leung, I really salute for his great humour and the way he presents himself (his gf - ms. Lau Kah Leng is another excellent actress!)

BY THE WAY, TO ALL THE TP MEMBERS, I WON 4 FREE TICKETS FOR FRENCH ILMS FESTIVALS 2005 IN KL 3 DAYS AGO - I HAD SUCCESSFULLY CALLED ON THE AIR AND ABLE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION CORRECTLY!!!I AM CRAZY NOW...4 FREE TICKETS....THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WINNING THROUGH CALL! hahaha...

I have prepare myself an overall film-reviews on 23 EUROPEAN UNIONs FILMS FESTIVAL 2004 with 33 pages!!!Anyone interested can ask it from me. i am willing to share my reviews.

Dreaming about tomorrow's film festival....another Japanese Fims Festival to come on 16-19th JUNE 2005!!!!
Crazy now,

"Sin City" How come anyone hasn't mentioned this yet? I just saw it, and in my opinion this is best film over last few years. I haven't read comics, but had the time of my life while watching this. Thrilling, , unique, violent, brilliant, fantastic directing and same for the story. Thriller of the year!

"Madagascar", I watched that yesterday. Somewhat amusing and few good jokes, but aimed more towards children. I was bit disappointed, expected more from Dreamworks. Animation was brilliant as always. :) Oh, and penguins were fantastic!

"Racing Stripes" Not gonna stop at the plot, same old formula, follow your heart and believe in yourself bla bla bla. ;) Bit flawed plot, but very good morals. Did I mention, that the animals talk? . Anyway I'd reccommend seeing Racing Stripes instead of Madagascar, if you are looking for good family entertainment. Grandma and Grandpa can watch it too.

cikusang, congratulations about winning free tickets to film festival.
I was member of the jury at "PÖFF" - local film festival here, in last winter. There's nothing like watching movies for free for two weeks, 2 or 3 films per day. :)

Zhang Ziyi and brilliant should not be put in the same sentence. She's basically doing what Bai Ling is doing, albeit on a more low-key level.

So many posts here, but has anyone mentioned The Big Blue by Luc Besson? That is my favorite of all and ever!

To my beloved TP members:
First of all, i miss you all <kiss>.
Secondly, this is the link of Japanese Films Festival 2005 in KL:
http://www.gsc.com.my/version2/intscreen/movies.asp?search=jff2

I will watch two films: classical "Tpkyo Story" and "Village of Dreams". C'est tout.

Share with you the French films I watched yesterday:
1. Arsene Lupin - Rumain Duris ( the actor in "Spanish Apartment - L'Auberge Espagnol" - Xavier, remember?") and Kristen Scott Thomas (She acts well in "The Horse Whisperer"); it's quite typical "Hollywood" the way it goes - worth for a 'see' and no mind-provoking.

RATING: 2 stars

2. M. Ibrahim And The Flowers Of The Coran
TP MEMBERS! THIS IS A VERY GOOD, MUCH WITH INNER-BEAUTY, MANY FRENCH-ALIKE QUOTES AND CONVERSATIONS - THE BODY LANGUAGE AND THE WAY OF AESTHETISM - note that each song - the melody and the lyrics represent something - be discerning, my dear!
I just can't stop thinking about it and sat until the last ending song finished before I could life myslef up and left the cinema

My advice: clean your ears before you watch this films: many superb quotes and mind-playing conversation For those who fancies "before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset", this is something 'sweet' and somehow 'mystic'!

Rating: 5 stars (and plus my heart as bonus)

3. Les Choristes (The Choir as in English)
- this is one of the nominees nominated in Oscar Awards 2004 in The Best Foreign Film Award (at first the media thought this film will compete with Argentina's "Motorcycle's Diary" but at the end , both lose) - to be honest, this SHOULD BE a great title but i personally think the director stresses less on how to 'transform' an evil class into 'miracle' - it's very "hollywood" in such a way that the film starts with a very bad situation and ended up with all used-to-be so problematic students be able ALL SINGING in the perfect voice and well-disciplined! Anyway, I am a bit relieved to find out this film still sustains it's French-savvy character by giving us some realistic picture ( not 100% Hollywood, thanks, God) about today's education. I used to become involved actively in the world of educaton and this film doesn't convince me much!

Rating: 2 stars and a half

4. Try to Remember
- TP MEMBERs, this film brings much surprise to me as I didn't expect that high and superb script writing and performance by the crew of actors! The way and the feel (colour and techniques) are very 'autumnized' - pale red-brownish on the saddest part... I couldn't even cry coz you do not grab the whole feeling of telling you "what makes you sad?"

WATCH THIS FILM!!! I WON'T TELL YOU WHY THE ACTRESS IS PLUNGED INTO EVERY IMAGINABLE DEPRESSION - NO PAIN, NO EMOTION, NO LOOKING-BACK!

This movie brings a very alarming message - treasure your memories while you can! Or else picture how the actress feel ( her name is Claire) - close your eyes and listen to the songs...you will find some answers in the songs!;)

I coudn't sleep for the whole night and kept discussing about that film with my friends - some of them would like to write articles and previews about this film!

Do you know what is the meaning of 'snurly'? Find out in this film!

One of the best quote:
When an old man dies, then the library is gone too!

rating: 5 Stars (plus my heart as bonus)

Hi all, Sorry but I haven't been able to read through ALL the entries, so I just thought I would put my top films in:

Favourite films:

1: Withnail & I - Absolute classic, can honestly say I will never get bored of it (even though I can already quote it word for word (yes, I am that sad)). About 2 washed up actors escaping to the coutry to get away from their drug and alcohol abuse only to be followed their by Withnail's raving homo of an uncle. I cannot recommend it enough.

2: This is Spinal Tap- Simply a must see movie that you will find yourself CONSTANTLY hearing quotes from. Can't even begin to tell you why to see it, YOU JUST DO!!

3: The Big Lebowski- Jeff Bridges & John Goodman doing their thing perfectly as 2 bowlers caught up in a kidnapping. Any movie where a character is called "the dude" has gotta be worth a watch.

4: Pi- Darren Aronofsky directing another messed up film. About a man who looked into the sun as a child and can now do huge calculations in his head. With people from religeous $ commercial areas attempting to get him to work for them, as he goes more and more insane due to the uncontrolable gift he has. Dark, but very watchable.

5: Being John Malcovich- Weird film about somebody (John Cussack) finding a door into John Malkoviches head and procceding to sell tickets. Before realising he can control him (he is a puppeteer). Increadable film.

Now the toughie...

Best Films ( I won't go into detail, co I will blather on forever )

1: The Godfather

2: Apocalypse Now & Hearts of Darkness (the making of, but as good as the film itself)

3: Mullholland Drive (I'm STILL thinking about this film 2 Yrs after seeing it, trying to figure out the clues)

4: Pulp Fiction (Tarantinos best film.....YES, it is )

5: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

6: The Usual Suspects (Genius, pure GENIUS)

OK...I'm gonna stop now...its tough, but I will

I've been meaning to get this, for uh... certain reasons I won't reveal. There's no VCD version though, bleh.

(No, I don't own a DVD player; yes, I know that sucks. Sigh)

5: Being John Malcovich- Weird film...

I know this film was highly rated and lots of people love it, but I found it almost unwatchable. Thought it was a really stupid movie and pretty boring. But I guess I'm in the minority.
