We plan to go by car from Sao Paulo to Cuzco, through probably
Corumba in Mato Grosso and then through Bolivia. Would love
to have some advise on routes and whether this is a good idea
at all. My doubts are abouts the Bolivian passage, but as we'll
go in the dry season (july) we hope that it is doable?
(I live in Brazil, so I don't need information about that).
I suppose you have a good 4 wheel drive. No problems in July only that it can be quite cold at high altitudes. The road from Santa Cruz to La Paz is very good (even if it would be the rainy season). Where will you be entering Bolivia?
Unfortunately, we didn't have enough $$ for a 4-wheel drive (just a VW santana). I was hoping that in july the conditions on the streach from Corumba (entering Bolivia in Puerto Suarez) to Santa Cruz, although unpaved, would we good enough for normal cars? If this is not possible, it seems that the only way to reach Peru is to go down to BA, crossing over to Santiago and taking the Pan American highway up to Peru. But this seems a lot longer, and I'm keen on seing Bolivia. Some suggestions for a good road map of SA?
