Had to stop the car to photograph this

Travel Forums General Talk Had to stop the car to photograph this

Not really on my travels, but I was visiting friends in Hemel Hempstead UK today when nature treated me and thousands of others to an amazing view. I just had to stop the car as I had not seen anything so vivid in all my life.

With the sun behind me and storm clouds ahead, arching out from horizon to horizon the most amazing rainbow I have ever seen, full in colour I just dropped my jaw and had to get out, I was cursing at not having my camera and instead had to snap something on my phone (which is really disappointing, its washed out all the colours and is grainy but never mind)

heres a few of the snaps together, it doesnt do it any justice but there we go.

I dont really expect any one to really understand from the photo, but for me, for a few minutes I saw something amazing.

Have you ever had one of those "HOLD THE PHONES!" moments when you just had to stop and look?

the photo doesn't really do it justice, but I can imagine that it was an amazing sight.

I love it when things like that happen. They always happen when you least expect it, and always brighten up your day.

Thanks for sharing the photo with me.

WOW, that is an Amazing rainbow. It's pretty unusual to see the complete rainbow and have such an unobstructed view. I bet it was really amazing especially because it probably was so unexpected.

Martin: A full rainbow is rare and seeing it brings good luck. I was in Port of Spain, Trinidad many years ago and I saw a double full rainbow. I spend all day looking for a pot of gold. (Unsuccessful)

Great pic Martin!!! Full rainbows are unusual. You were very lucky - consider that your pot of gold!!

the picture was created by opening 3 of the pictures from my phone, lining them up along side each other (its not accurate though, just an approximation) and then doing "Print Screen" and then pasting that in to a new image and cropping the rest out, very basic way of doing it but the single pictures alone didnt look so good.. :|

A friend of mine has sent me some pictures (I had just left her house) and they give a slightly better view, but they are BIG, but still...not just as impressive as I saw it with my eyes (and now my minds eye!) :)

You can see the second backwards rainbow in these pictures outside it

Picture one

Picture two
Picture three

I never thought I'd see anything so beautiful in the UK..it was a real treat and it makes me happy just to think of it, maybe i'm just odd though

A full rainbow isn't actually an arc. You can only see a full rainbow from the sky where it will appear as a complete circle.*

  • Pedant!

Great pictures though!

I just have to say that rainbows are one of the things that reminds me of the bigger picture, you know life the universe and everything (Thanks Douglas!)
Cool picture, I had a stop and snap moment similar in Varanasi India, I was really depressed and this beautiful rainbow appeared aove the roof tops it made me feel so alive!
