I need some information on a cool hostel to stay at in Rio. Doesnt have to be too fancy, basically looking for a place with good atmosphere and location that is central. Any ideas?
Also, if anyone has been to Rio for Carnivale before, any useful information about when to book, or a cool part of the city to stay in...close to all the action.
Do prices rise dramatically during this time of year?
Do most accomodation places get booked out?
Any info appreciated.
i didnt stay in rio during carnaval, but friends did, and i know you should book already. the prices may go up to 10 times higher.
im looking for an apartment in rio during that time and there are already lots of them booked. so go ahead ..
i stayed once at a hostel in ipanema which is a good district on the beach. its called crab hostel http://www.crabhostel.com.br/
i found it quite good !
Best place in Rio is Santa Teresa. Best Carnival in Rio, near the sambodrome and downtown. Stay on a hostal or Bed and Breakfast.
I was in Rio this year (2005) for Carnaval. I loved it so I am going back in 2006 again. We are going with a bunch of friends and already booked an apartment. It was not easy to find and prices were on a par with London. This year we had a really horrible land-lady and the flat was crap. Trying our luck again with a different place.
Re hostel: I visited some friends in a hostel in Ipanema. It is the most pleasant part of Rio.
For carnival events I use the site of Rio Carnival. We paraded with them last year and bought our tickets from them, too.
The Parade was nice (a bit repetitive) however the street parties are the best. Do the bands!!! We also went to a samba school but Ifelt a bit intimidated and out of place.
I did not go to any ball though last time. Any recommendations from anyone?
Try this websites:
This last one in particular has the best location for those who likes street carnival.
I knew lots of good friends there.
Tip: Be aware of your things all the time in Rio. During the carnival you can be stolen easyly. Carry as less as you can, specially money.
orrrrrrrrrrrr ... do we have to talk about the carnival lol!!!
i wanted to go but to add rio on my tour doubled the price of my RTW ticket so now i have to exclude it .. im soooooooooooooo gutted!!!!
but hey, hope you have a wonderful time, who knows maybe i can get there another time!!
im definatly starting my south america adventure at rio for the carnival, but im curious to know if there are any other lone females going for the carnival?...im a 19yr old female and even though im well travelled i still feel i may be slightly intimidated by it all! it would be great to hear from you and if possible meet up
