Sorry what I meant was can you not set up surveys, that you could put on the home page - where people can select an option from a list, and it automatically counts the results for you so you don't have to read loads of posts to figure out what people prefer.

And to answer the questions;
1. Are you likely to join an organised chat?
Definately
2. What day suits you best?
Any day
3. What time of that day suits you best?
between 5pm and 8pm (London time)

1. I don't understand what you mean by 'organized'?

As opposed to 'just happening to be online'. We set a time and people can set their alarms to enter the chat at that point.

Yes, that is possible. I'd have to code something though and by the time I've done that, I could have tallied up the results in this thread 10 times. I think we should get a fairly good idea based on the results from this thread though. Great idea to start this thread btw :)

Hadn't thought of that. Would it be possible to create something that shows which Travel Helpers are online so that if you had a question you could chat directly with them? Might be nice to have a live help service or something like that.

Indeed, it would be possible, though even more work to code ;) Also, some people may not want to be contacted by someone everytime they're online (which in turn would require an 'I'm not online' option to be coded). The idea to have a list of online users displayed somewhere is on our 'to do' list though, so it will be possible at some point.

chatting when theres say 3 or 4 people is fine but when you get even more people theres so many messages flying around you are constantly typing without getting a chance to read anything.
If you have what i recommended in my post last week regarding an online option where people can see whos online then have an option for a mood setting (where you can put whether you want to chat or not) i think that would be a better option.

I been on other sites where people set days and times for chatting and nobody uses it.The time differences are a major factor and with people working day or night and people with different lifestyles will make it even harder.

i would chat more, but my stupid computer has dial up and it takes too long to start up and get going... i know it sounds like im making excuses, but seriously!!! you don't know slow until you've seen my computer!

anyways, my new years resolution: to be patient and chat more on tp!! (i know it's a little late for a resolution, but better late than never!!)

Isn't there an easy way to let people know who is using the forum at any time? At the moment you only know who is in the live chat room, when there may be dozens of people actually looking at the forum. This is a common feature of other sites so is it possible here?

I think if people could see that there were a lot of people online they would be more inclined to log on to the chat room and wait for others to join in!

It is true that things can get fast and furious in chat when there are several people. And, most of the time, it is just general discussion about everything. If someone enters the room who is looking to discuss a travel-related issue or get help, there is the private chat option, which keeps it more one-on-one.

You are right about that - being manic. And, if I recall - you and Dave are quite adept at taking care of yourselves! (Unless the small kitchen appliances start to fly...) I also notice you 2 aren't quick to leave either. (Unless it's tea time.)
