I have to agree with Proud John.
We have seen Mexico (specifically Acapulco) get pretty dicey at times when venturing even a little beyond the main strip for dinner and such.

Quoting vampyren

Apart from the obvious added perils such as war, a high incidence of drug smuggling etc, generally speaking, wherever you are in the world, if you want or look for trouble / danger, you can find it.

The same goes for the more positive aspects of life, of course! :)

I totally agree! Of course there are the places that we are advised not to travel to because of unrest/war/etc. But mostly, if you take a step in the direction that you shouldn't...trouble will be there. Common sense will take care of that...travel safe, don't leave a club with total strangers, stay on well-lit streets at night, don't flash your money....it's all basic street smarts.

Not that this is the most dangerous country, but it's where I felt most uncomfortable, and that would be Algiers, Morocco. It was just very intimidating, that's all. And as for Colombia, while working on the ship, we skipped our port of call there because of 3 murdered Americans. Interesting side note: We also picked up 2 French men who were filming a show about how to travel on minimal money. They were due to travel through Colombia from Venezuela, but due to the civil unrest were advised not to. My ship ( a MAJOR cruise line) was kind enough to pick up these two "stowaways" and transport them safely.

I would have to say somalia cause

THE REASON'S

1.no government since 1991
2.no police department (i've heard)
3.country run by 4 different gangs
4.GDP - per capita: $600 second only to east timor
5.Literacy: total population: 37.8%
6.A hotbed for terrorism

Wouldn't the most obvious answer right now be Iraq? I mean you have next to no chance if you get there of coming out alive. At least most the other countries if you are careful, try and blend in with the local culture as much as possible well you should come out alive even if you lost some of your property.

Quoting Proud John

[quote=andrea_d]

Colombia is a hell hole amd i have absoloutly no desire to go there, Brazil on the other hand is a country that i would like to go to despite it being dangerous although it is nowhere near as dangerous as Colombia.

How exactly would you know colombia is a hell hole if you have never visited the place, i have been to colombia many times and im sick to death of people judging a country they no nothing about!! ive been to the mountains ,climbed mountains have no be kinapped ben in the city havent been offered drugs, kidnapped or murdered ive even walked down supposly ' the baddest most murderous street' in bogota and am i dead no! did i get robbed no! did i get kidnapped no! did i get raped no! did i get offered drugs no! did anything romotly bad happen no?! and ive lived in a remote part of the country too . sure colombia has its problems like war, and yes kidnappings do happen as do murders and robbery but what country does that not happen in? the 'media' just choose to highlight all the bad aspects instead of all the good - colombia is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with the friendlist people, with the best coffee and emeralds - my god sounds so hell holish doesnt it

Icouldnt tell you what the most dangerous country in the world is because every country has its problems and what with terriosts adding to that nowhere is safe.

How exactly would you know colombia is a hell hole if you have never visited the place,

I don't have to actually go to another country to know exactly what it is like. I can easily find out what another country is like by reading stories and articles about the things that go on there. So for you to say that you can't know what certain country is like untill you have actually been there is rubbish. You don't need to actually go to Iraq or Sudan or Somalia to know how dangerous they are do you. So therefore it's the exact same thing with Colombia, i and other people don't have to actually go there to know that it is dangerous. Not only that Colombia is so dangerous that veru few tourits ever go there, it also has the highest murder rate in the world and it once had the highest kidnapping rate in the world to.

i have been to colombia many times and im sick to death of people judging a country they no nothing about!! ive been to the mountains ,climbed mountains have no be kinapped ben in the city havent been offered drugs, kidnapped or murdered ive even walked down supposly ' the baddest most murderous street' in bogota and am i dead no! did i get robbed no! did i get kidnapped no! did i get raped no! did i get offered drugs no! did anything romotly bad happen no?! and ive lived in a remote part of the country too . sure colombia has its problems like war, and yes kidnappings do happen as do murders and robbery but what country does that not happen in? the 'media' just choose to highlight all the bad aspects instead of all the good - colombia is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with the friendlist people, with the best coffee and emeralds - my god sounds so hell holish doesnt it

Well you must have been very cautious when you went there. But if you had gone to the very dangerous hot spots in Colombia such as the guerilla and paramilatry contorlled zones in the mountains, or if you had gone to the slums you would have most likely had gotten yourself killed for sure.

I couldnt tell you what the most dangerous country in the world is because every country has its problems and what with terriosts adding to that nowhere is safe.

Well in the past 10 years Colombia has been ranked as the most dangerous country in the world in 4 years. The years that it was ranked as the most dangerous country in the world were 1998 2000 2001 2002. So there is some indication which proves just how much of a dangerous it really is
