[quote]How exactly would you know colombia is a hell hole if you have never visited the place,

I don't have to actually go to another country to know exactly what it is like. I can easily find out what another country is like by reading stories and articles about the things that go on there. So for you to say that you can't know what a certain country is like untill you have actually been there is rubbish. You don't need to actually go to Iraq or Sudan or Somalia to know how dangerous they are do you. So therefore it's the exact same thing with Colombia, i and other people don't have to actually go there to know that it is dangerous. Not only that Colombia is so dangerous that very few tourists ever go there, it also has the highest murder rate in the world and it once had the highest kidnapping rate in the world to.

ITs not rubbish, you cant truely judge any country until you have experienced it yourself, and yes you can read articles and stories, but most of the articles have maybe 30% truth in them, so u cant judge everything by what you read - thats ignorance. Colombia doesnt have a lot of tourists? and you got that fact from where?maybe not for the city bogota but cartengena is very popular with tourists...almost every person i know who has been to colombia has loved it... and the murder rate well there is a war going but colomia is changing for the better, but do you hear about that in the news? no and do you know why? cos good stuff doesnt sell as well as all the bad elements.

Well you must have been very cautious when you went there. But if you had gone to the very dangerous hot spots in Colombia such as the guerilla and paramilatry contorlled zones in the mountains, or if you had gone to the slums you would have most likely had gotten yourself killed for sure.

I have gone to the very dangerous hot spots and hello im still here , so no i didnt get myself killed for sure - so your theory doesnt live out. i have lived in a villiage that was controlled for a few months and im still here.

Well in the past 10 years Colombia has been ranked as the most dangerous country in the world in 4 years. The years that it was ranked as the most dangerous country in the world were 1998 2000 2001 2002. So there is some indication which proves just how much of a dangerous it really is

yes colombia was dangerous in those years because the war was strong, the country as a whole is so much better now and personally i dont feel it is the most dangeous country in the world and i dont think it ever has been - the media has just given it that repuatation. im not denying colombia has its faults and im not saying its the most safe country in the world , but i have never ever had any problems what so ever....so before you start saying places are hell holes before you ever been maybe u should experience it for ur self instead of living it throu other pples eyes - then you can judge 100%

Have a look at some of my posts earlier in this thread around pages 4-5.

I had a great time in Colombia, survived it without a problem and would love to go back again. One of the most beautiful and friendly countries I've ever visited. I survived it, and never saw any problem wherever I traveled in Colombia. I took advice from locals and advisories and I was fine. Avoid the slums and guerilla mountain hideouts and there won't be a problem.

i can say smth about Russia..i saw it mentioned somewhere here...well, as i'm native russian, some of my foreign friends used to ask me how dangerous is it and even "is there a lot of russian mafia"...haha;) question about russian mafia i like most:))))...i used to answer that i have never seen any russian mafia in russia, probably it is all in some other places that are warmer, richer...:)))
i think that in Sankt-Petersburg and Moscow is the same dangerous as in any big city in the world...countryside- no..of course if you don't go to Chechenia..but this is another issue already..
