Wow, I'll have to remember this one. TIGERS are my favorite animal, I'd love to hold a Tiger Cub! (did you do it?, and get a pic taken?).

Jeffrey - check out our photo gallery for USA - there's a pick of one of the lions we used to be in charge of - he's 7 months old in the pic.

Africa kind of ruined me for zoos... but the SiRacha Tiger Zoo in Pattaya, Thailand is pretty cool. Heaps of beautiful tigers, there were cubs when I was there & your allowed to hold them & get photo's etc. You can also feed chickens to crocodiles here!

sad story from February this year - out of 450 tigers there some 150 died from the bird flu (they were fed sick dead chickens). Medicines didn't work for them.

most probably the crocs got the whole share now - I wouldn't advice to be near the feeding area as chickens might have virus

my favourite zoo may seem like a strange choice compared to all the big ones you've mentioned but it actually a mini zoo near Epe in the Netherlands. The zoo houses the miniture or smaller animals within a certain species in open areas with less bars / fencing, we were there with my boyfriends nieces and it made all the animals a lot more accesible to them which was brilliant...

My favorite zoo is still Taronga zoo in Sydney. For one, the amazing view of the Sydney harbour while watching the bird show is fantastic. Then there's the fact that they do a ton of programs aimed at improving the wild populations of the same animals or breeding programs to make sure wild animals aren't used for other zoo's.... great animal facilities too.

The apenheul (monkey park) in the Netherlands is cool too. Lots of monkeys running around freely but be sure to tie up your bags tightly as the monkeys are cunning little pickpockets :)

I'm a bit of a sucker for zoo's actually and those are two of my favorites

I loved Belfast Zoo, for some reason. It was pretty empty and had a kind of lonely feel to it, but I loved walking through it without another soul around. Plus 20 meercats sat on this roof ledge and stared at us with beedy, red eyes. Creepy, but fascinating.

I've also seen the zoos in Paris, Auckland, Florida, and here at home. But Belfast takes the cake.

Zoos that have petting areas with baby animals - watch out for baby elephants! They are very good at getting their trunks into pants pockets, shirts, bags - you name it! They distract you with their cute faces and ears while robbing you blind! (I'm not kidding - they are like the monkeys and love to explore.)

That reminded me of the macaqs in Gibraltar. We were feeding them cookies, pulling them one at a time from our pockets and holding them out.

At one point, my b/f at the time thought I was the one digging for another cookie in his pocket. But it was a clever macaq - who'd figured out where the stash was hid. He pulled open his pocket with one hand, and reached in with the other to take out every last cookie. It was pretty funny - although we were warned that they'd run away with ANYTHING they could get their hands on.

Dubbo zoo(otherwise known as Western Plains Zoo)in Australia is cool.
Obviously it is in the outback and has loads of room for the animals.
There are ditches dug to seperate the animals from the people and hardly any cages. This gives the zoo the appearance of "being on safari"!!
If I remember rightly(it was 10 years ago I visited!!!!) the zoo is involved in conservation activities concerning the rhinos.
Well worth a visit if you are out that way in OZ!!!
