tamar has indicated that this thread is about Greece

Hiya all,

So impressed am I by the caliber of individuals and suggestions that have come from this site, that I am proposing a meeting of sorts for enthused travellers heading to the Games in Athens!

Any ideas or further suggestions, just let me know. Was thinking maybe a dinner/some sort of get together would be great- casual, friendly, an opportunity to meet some new travel friends and most of all have a fun time!

What do you think? Look foward to hearing from you soon!

Cheers,
Tam ;-)

Hey Tam,

Sounds interesting. Was planning to try and be in Greece around olympic time, although not sorted yet, and due to Athens accom problems at the time, would prob be camping, so not that central to Athens.

Would certainly be up for something to eat and a few drinks whilst meeting other travellers if i'm there at that time.

I'll add you to contacts re: the meet up and keep you posted.

Tam

hi guys - i'm new to this! i will (hopefully) be in athens for the month of august to volunteer for the Olympics...however! accommodation is a huge dilemma - i'm not sure what to expect, what is normal pricing, or even which places are the closest to where i want to be if i'm volunteering everyday. if any of you have any suggestions or tips in finding and securing a (hopefully affordable for a university student) place, please let me know - i would really appreciate it!

madly searching greece from canada,
- janice

Hey Janice,
I'n new here too. I'm also hoping to volunteer at the Olympic games. I'm desperately trying to find somewhere affordable to stay. Does anyone know of anywhere? Its really difficult at the moment because i don't know the dates i'll be required yet!

Have you had any luck?
Helen

Hey,
Yep, New to this forum - me and a friend are hoping to travel to athens at the time of the games - seems to be impossible to find accomodation. We were considering either volunteering for the last week or just catching some of the games. Either way, we need to find somewhere to sleep! Seems to me like anything central is booked up, but if anything comes up or anyone has any suggestions for two Irish guys in athens, let me know....

Hello 24 year old male student here from California. I plan to visit Athens but before the olypics. I will be visitng most of Europe as well before I get to athens. I will be ther around April 20th or so. If anyone would like to meet up just send me a message through here. I am taking a camping tent and it seems at the moment that its the cheapest way to stay there.

I'm in the same conundrum as others that have posted here: finding affordable accomodation not too far from Athens. I am fine with camping and/or travelling as long as 1-1.5 hours each way to the city, but it seems that there is a shortage of that kind of accomodation as well.

Hey there,

Not sure what the present accomodation situation is at the moment, but if you haven't tried, definitely try the link above. Otherwise, sites like this one....

http://www.studenttravellersinn.com

Most important thing to remember at this stage, is that there are plenty of people in the same boat as you. So group together through forums or otherwise...Marshall your resources and see what else is happening....

The same thing goes for people actually hiring out their homes etc....They are looking to capitalise on the Olympic period, so make sure you do google searches for 'Olympic accomodation' etc...You'll find somewhere.

Cheers, Tam.
