I was just calming down, and now you're getting all riled up . I'll check out the link now. Along similar lines, today at the video store I almost rented "Hotel Rwanda", have you seen that movie yet?

Heh, yeah, sorry I haven't seen Hotel Rwanda yet, though I fully intend to. I did have some involvement in making several documentary style programs about Rwanda and after seeing some of that footage, I shudder to think about what is going on in Sudan.

By the way, I don't read the Sudan Tribune normally - it's just what Google News delivered ;) Here's another interesting one, more on the US involvement - click here

Did you know that since the real troubles started in Sudan in 1983, over 2 million people have been killed? That's a fairly similar number to the estimations of the killing fields in Cambodia and more than Rwanda and Bosnia. See this page for some interesting figures on various genocides.

Apologies for the depressing subject. It's funny how the media barely mentions this stuff though! Guess it doesn't make for a good 'content break' between ads for cars and soft drink.

Thanks, checking out the links now. the "Genocide & Ethnic Cleansing" link looks especially interesting.

My Mother's always telling me I watch too many depressing movies (Holocost, war, etc.), read too much depressing "Reality" stuff like this, etc..

I'm gonna blame it on you now .

WOW! I had no idea the total was that high!
No apologies needed Peter....Thank you for the information! America really has the most skewed news...we hardly every hear about anything global. It really is pathetic! Jay Leno used to walk the streets of New York and ask people (seemingly) easy questions, and I was floored by the lack of knowledge out there! Example: Where is the Kremlin? various answers included: Disneyland, Canada, Mexico and Iraq.
A very sad state of affairs:(

You are right CC, we get so little worlwide info here in the US that we literally have to search for worlwide events/news through cable channels. I have watched Jay Leno when he asks people in the streets where a certain place is located or...get this, who is the Vice-President? I wont even get into what people answered.

What is happening in Africa is nothing less than a full blown genocide and nothing different than the Nazi Solution, the Khmer Rouge killings, or what happens in Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Congo, etc, etc. The best service we can do the those people and those who have perished is to remind each other about the attrocities, become aware of what happens in this world, and voice our opinion about what can be done to change it...but most of all, as they will tell you, DO NOT FORGET. Alone we cant do much, but collectively we could probably make a change. Lets only hope...

Since this thread is moving in the "genocide" direction, thought I'd post a link to this thread that was active a while ago and related to this discussion:
