Where are the Europeans when you need them (to explain all this to us)...ASLEEP!!!

Wake up Europe people, what does this EU Constitution defeat mean?

Exactly! Help!? I still dont' really understand the ramifications of a no. Then again, most of the time the U.S. government doesn't make ANY sense to me either;)

There will take place new negotiations between memberstates when Holland and/or france are voting against the EU-constitution. EU memberstates will then dicuss what needs to happen for opponents (countries against the constitution) to finally agree to the constitution.

At the end all countries have to agree, if not there will be no constitution. That would be a shame, though!!!!!! The constitution stands for better cooperation between EU countries, that cannot be wrong......I mean, only benefits. It will be the EU against criminals drugrelated problems and terrorists. And also there will be more Economic concurrention with US and China.........and that brings more prosperity (brings more Euros to travel). So I would like to ask all Europeans to vote YES

Wouterrr,

If the constitution was approaved by all (which it won't right now...French NO vote), would be be afraid that the EU could then be able to change some of the unique aspects of Dutch Culture: like Euthanasia, and more importantly the "coffeeshops"?

Last week I went to a discussionmeeting between several political parties. I've found out that the EU will never interfere in any Dutch policy. So that also means the policy on drugs (lucky for all the Americans) and euthanasia.

That's why some Dutch want to vote no because of something like the bullfights in Spain. The constitution allows this sort of traditions. For some westerners (animallovers) this is too much so they vote no because of only that (they don't want to be a part of such activities). All Dutch politicians who are against always give this as one of the examples to vote no (that's really bullshit).

By the way, I always wonder what foreigners think of our policy.........is it good (legislation on softdrugs, gaymarriage, euthanasia)???????

I think it's all good! I like the Dutch attitude of tolerance, "live and let live," etc.. When I hang out in Dutch cities and towns I can feel this "live and let live" feeling in the air (if you know what I mean). I never get the feeling the Dutch people are whispering to each other: "oh, look at that guy with the red hair" or "ewww, look at those girls holding hands," etc..

I like governments that allow individual people to make such decisions as the ones you mention, the ones that affect THEIR lives. I wish our government to allow more freedom of choice to the INDIVIDUAL in such matters.

I second that emotion Jeff!

The tolerance is a great thing...
A woman was jailed here last year for helping her elderly mother to overdose on morphine, cancer obviously, she had no quality of life & immense pain. I think the daughter was treated very harshly!

My prediction is that the Dutch will also vote "NO" on Wednesday. I'd say around 55% (or slightly more) will vote NO.
