Thanks a lot for your great info!! I wonder why travel agencies normally charge 280$ for 5d Salkantay, that's a total rip-off :(

On the other hand, I reckon you went there during low season, so maybe this is what the extra charge accounts for when one wants to go in July. So perhaps it's even more dificult to get a spot if you just go there and look/book during high season...

What are you up to right now, travelwise?
Thanks again y que te vaya muy bien! :)

normally, thatd smart to assume i went during low season. i went on the trek recently however. the dates of my tour were june 1-5, 2005... so i think the info ive posted is about as current as it gets!

in most cases, purchasing things over the internet is cheaper... flights, books, electronics, etc. i have definately not found this to be the case in south america though. it seems as if the companies are profiting from peoples assumptions that booking online is best. though i may be wrong, as its just the beginning of high season, it hardly seems necessary to book in advance with anything (with the exception of the inca trail)... this afternoon i booked a two day tour of lake titicaca for 45 soles (about $13usd) that leaves tomorrow morning!
