I'm going to be traveling from Mexico City to San Francisco in September / October, I have about 6 to 8 weeks to do it by bus,

Which is the nicest most interesting route to go? West coast Mexico, Central, or East coast?

Shaun,

I'm partial to the west coast route, because of two different beach resort cities (Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan) you could visit in that direction--and because you would go through Guadalajara--Mexico's second-largest city and a very interesting place.

I could see also going up the center, though. San Luis Potosi and Guanajuato are supposed to be interesting cultural towns--and if you take the train out of Chihuahua, you could visit Copper Canyon where over three million butterflies reproduce each year.

I wouldn't recommend the east coast up from Mexico City. Other than Monterrey (which is actually kind of inland) most of the coast is either industrial, or there's nothing to see.

Enjoy

Thanks for the info.

Is it doable in 6 weeks?

Shaun,

Well actually it can be done in a lot less time--just depends on how often you stop and what you want to see.

Enjoy.

Cool, as long as I don't have to rush it and spend every day on the road I'll be happy
