[b] Hi

I'm travelling alone to Australia at the end of Sept.My flight, visa and insurance is all sorted but I just needed some advice on when I should book my hostel? Shall I do it now or wait until nearer the time? I arrive in Sydney Oct 1st!!!

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Laura x

If you're okay with dorm rooms, this time of year you can wait till the day itself, and be guaranteed of a bed in all but the tiniest YHAs.
By the time December/January comes around, you'll want to book about half a week ahead, and for Christmas/New Year's make it more than a week; more than two for the big cities.

Of course since you can cancel without any cost up to one or two days before you'd have arrived, there's no harm in booking early, and for single, double and twin rooms it's always a good idea to book several weeks in advance, but I personally wouldn't make it more than that.

In December and January in a city like Sydney, if you want to get a decent hostel, it's smart to be booking a month ahead.... especially at Christmas/New Years Sydney is crazy!
