Just to keep things in perspective; 16 people have died in 5 months out of 9000 infections. That's roughly 0.17% fatality rate, so 99.8% of people who get it, actually recover. More people than that die on the roads in our state here over the Christmas holidays!
and..
Figures for 2005 remain below those in the same period in 2003, when 18 deaths and 17,320 infections were recorded.
So, it's hardly much worse than normal, if any at all, just that last year was better for some reason.
Just be sensible and go to the doctor if you don't feel well.
And good on the Thais for launching such a clean-up effort!
Thanks for this update.
Is it possible to receive a vaccine for dengue?
I live in Canada and I would like to try to avoid my death while in thailand! I've have plans for this part of my life...:-)
