I've been scanning the net for car hire in Canada and I don't see any of them offering Sat Nav, but can anyone tell me if its possible to hire a unit for a couple of weeks?

Markos,

Why not get a handheld GPS unit and just take it with you in a car?

They run as cheap as 99 US Dollars right now--and are available at any West Marine store in Canada (I think there's four stores in the British Columbia area). People that sail, like yours truly, use them all the time for offshore navigation, or for cross-checking navigational bearings already taken from celestial or land-based reference points.

Enjoy.

GPS units are not rented in Canada-as mentioned buy one and Be Happy!

Nah, not one of those funny gizmos that gives you a horrible LCD screen with longitude and latitude references. I'm talking one of these dashboard mounted jobbys that shows you a colour view of the road you're on and the one ahead, that audibly announces to which turning you will need to take and how far away it is, etc. I'd preferably like one that tells me where the Gatzo camera's are located too!!!

Ones over here come with UK and European maps on SD card for about 3 or 4 hundred quid (that's about 6 or 7 hundred US dollars).

  • Gatzo = The manufacturers of the stationery speed cameras in the UK.

I found this, although I don't know how legitimate the company is. Hertz used to rent the NeverLost system, but I can't for the life of me find the link on their home page. Maybe they've stopped...?
