Next week I am flying out to Delhi for the start of a RTW 6 month trip. I have bought a medical kit so if I need to go to a hospital I will have my own clean needles (as recommended somewhere!) but on the medical pack it mentions getting a "Customs Clearance Card" before departure. What is this and where do I get it?? Do I have to have one if the needles are stored and sealed in my non-carry on bag?
Any help would be appreciated ! ;)

Hi, I don't know about the customs clearance card. But the couple times I traveled with needles I took a note form the Dr. explaining why I had them.

My guess would be a customs clearance card would be something you could get upon departure at the airport, but I really don't know for sure.

I never had any problems and was never questioned, but did have the Dr.'s note just in case.

You need this because otherwise the customs officer thinks you are a potential drug user. I also took a few needles with me and this card was included in the package. Otherwise you should do what travel100 proposed and ask your doctor.

Great that you are leaving for Delhi (I am sooo jalous...). Look out for what you eat in Delhi. When I was there I got sick and had to stay in a medical clinic for 5 days (never got sick in Iran or Pakistan but in Delhi I got bacteria by food). In india they are very aware of Aids so they use always new needles (from the wrapping). Do you know where you are going to stay in Delhi? First time in India?

Thankyou both for the advice. The label on the medical pack said not to open it until needed in an emergency which is confusing coz you have to open it to get the clearance card out ! Because you said that yours was inside I opened mine and there it was ! Thanks! Feel kinda dull now but the pack was so badly worded !

Yeah first time in India. Sorry to hear you were ill in Delhi - it's something I have heard a lot about and am kinda bracing myself for. Just have to be careful I suppose but India seems like such a fascinating place. I am in India for 3 weeks before flying out to Hong Kong - is there anything you particularly recommend that I should see or do??

I LOVE traveling in India, but also got pretty sick in my digestive system. Had 3 types of "worms" :( . The Dr. said it was from "wayside" eating.

By the way, did you get shots to protect against Hep-A ?

What places are you gonna visit in India?

Where else are you going on this RTW trip?

In 3 weeks you should be able to see:

Delhi
Jaipur
Agra
Khajuraho
Varanasi

All of Rajasthan is Great! Very colorful.

The Ajanta & Ellora Caves, and the Elephanta Caves are also very much worth seeing.

India's a big place so obviously you won't be able to see everything, but those are some highlights without going to far South or East.

I got it the first day in Delhi after eating masala dosa in the main bazar........

I really can't eat dosa food anymore. I tried a few weeks later in southern India but I found it just horrible......

Also go to Jodhpur, you really should not miss this. Only blue houses, really beautiful city. I found it one the highlights of my trip.

The Taj Mahal is beautiful, very unreal and you don't know what you see. At sunset the Taj is at her best.....

Good luck in India, too bad you have only 3 weeks (Don't let the touts get you).
